Same reason Qatar has bought and is buying more fast attack crafts from Turkey final number more than 20 units
Or UAE purchase of the Cirit missile from Roketsan the finally tally is estimated to be as high as 10,000 missiles of which 4,000 have been delivered this while GCC has access to the worlds top arms manufacturers
JF-17 success does not rely on a export market but the domestic Pakistani market, if PAF was desperate for a sale they would have joined the coalition in Yemen war but they refused and refused by a large majority also same is true for Syria
If PAF demonstrated JF-17 in Yemen for sure bags of orders would be following up, GCC country's would probably even buy the jet just as a repayment for Pakistans participation but that is not how Pakistan roles and it's not their baggage to get involved a very wise choice in my opinion
JF-17 has possibility in any Arab country, many Arab country's know the PAF score they have a healthy respect and remember all too well the record in Arab-Israeli wars, no brag just the way they role
If K-8 and Mushshak and Super Mushshak can do it so can the JF-17, although 2 foreign exports have been secured in my opinion already

Apologies if you didn't like my tone, it was good natured debate, in response to the post stating (the JF-17) "Always steals the show niceeeeeee... PAF always shows the goods" (which could also be taken as flame bait to over sensitive readers, but which i took as 'banter').
It was a genuine question though, as asked before on here, which i still cant find an answer to. Maybe there is a very good reason why the JF-17 was billed at the Dubai and Bahrain shows, but failed to show? I'm sure most wont believe it was 'scared away' from Bahrain by the Indian Tejas, as impressive as it was (in my opinion).
I require a source for both of the claims. That PAF paid money and didnt showed up in these airshows.

The article cited above shares the details of JF-17 and Super Mushshak air display with some mundane back-ground.
The description of the sign-off move by JF-17 makes me want to see a video if there is one out there. It was a vertical climb with aileron rolls while spitting out flares.
This display is worth more than any air-show, since it was done reportedly at Qatar's request (PAF sources) and witnessed by PMs of both Pakistan and Qatar, as well as high-level military personnel.

That's already quite an expansion for them from their current fleet of 13 M2Ks, so while JF17s might make a nice hi-lo combo with Rafales in a larger air force, is Qatar really looking to make such a massive expansion of its air force compared to its current size?

I think it is a necessity. Qatar being part of GCC can not afford to ignore developments in the region.
PAF has played its part in training the GCC airforces during 80s and 90s. There are significant linkages and they still matter quite a bit.
I can not say how significant is Qatar's invitation for the air-display, but the fact that ACM Sohail Aman accompanied Pakistan's PM is a clue. Apparently Pakistan attached a good deal of importance to the occasion, where a multi-year LNG deal was the central event.
Since I lived in Qatar for some years, I can tell that Qataris had wanted to establish a deeper economic relation with Pakistan, around which they could feel comfortable developing strategic dimension, that might go beyond employing Pakistanis in armed services and some training, etc...
