That's my dream block II; however, you call it block III. it's up to you!

Actually you know what your right I would also call it my "dream" Block II becuase it's really aerial refueling, IRST and conformal fuel tanks

For Block III we could expect stealth features (which we clearly dont have in the above picture) and retractable fuel probe as well as more powerful WS13B engine

I would love to have seen WS13A on Block II

True but personally I believe that the production rate was set by the retirement rates, those 40 Block I have replaced the A5s and in 2010 there was a quick push to get two Sqaudrons deployed so thats why they probably upped the rate for production in 2010 and then once two Sqaudrons were set they dropped the rate

We know the naval Mirages are in bad shape so maybe they will build Block II faster than Block I and with a better financial situation this might be a possibility

Let's hope we see some serious progress with Block II and the refueling probe is much more than what we have seen on 09-109 although I am sure it will be

About production rate: I do not think much of the "matching retiring rate" line. It seems to be a face-saving statement more than anything else. Many of PAF's Mirage III/IV need to go ASAP. Moreover, anyone with a bit of background in industrial production can tell what happens to Overhead & Fixed costs per unit when production rate takes a dip. Investing in infrastructure, training man-power, maintaining administrative setup, etc... for making 20+ planes a year and then producing only 7 units can not be for sake of matching rate of retiring.

Bottom line is that Government of Pakistan having been hostage to a cartel / coalition of corrupt politicians for the last so many years has impacted JF-17 program really hard. Our financial situation under new government seems to be improving and combined with a push for export of JF-17 / FC-1 we can hope for better progress of JF-17 program.
