JF-17/FC-1 Fighter Aircraft thread

Asif, I believe we have the capability to produce more than 20 air craft per year. But that would happen only if we have export orders, so that the program sustains some of its costs through export earnings. Scaling up production should not be a problem provided the financial situation supports it. The rate of production was low because of financial reasons. With our economy doing a little bit better (government figures), we could do better next year onwards.

True but personally I believe that the production rate was set by the retirement rates, those 40 Block I have replaced the A5s and in 2010 there was a quick push to get two Sqaudrons deployed so thats why they probably upped the rate for production in 2010 and then once two Sqaudrons were set they dropped the rate

We know the naval Mirages are in bad shape so maybe they will build Block II faster than Block I and with a better financial situation this might be a possibility

Let's hope we see some serious progress with Block II and the refueling probe is much more than what we have seen on 09-109 although I am sure it will be

I'm not sure if this has been posted before or not, but an interesting read never the less.

The PAF command, the officials said, is seeking technical input on the JF-17 Thunder project from Air Marshal Farhat Hussain Khan, who has proceeded on LPR (leave preparatory to retirement) owing to his scheduled retirement.
In addition, the incumbent Federal Government is said to have given a 'positive' response to the PAF proposed initiative to export JF-17 Thunder to some prospective buyer states, which, the PAF sources claim, have taken 'keen interest' in purchasing the aircraft from the Pakistani armed force. Of these states, the officials said, intense deliberations are under way with Turkey, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
"There are a few other states, mostly less developing ones, with which the negotiations are at a preliminary stage," the insiders informed, adding that the PAF, if continuously supported by the government in terms of resisting the international pressure, would be able to export the JF-17 Thunder in the coming years.
"There has been enormous international pressure coming from some developed states that oppose exporting JF-17 Thunder project. It's up to the government to withstand these kinds of pressures and the PAF will be able to launch the aircraft exports in the coming times, a couple of years at least," a senior PAF official stated.

Without a domestic engine the prospect for export of the JF-17 and the J-10 is poor. Any re-exporting of the RD-93 or the AL-31 engines will need the permission of the Russians.

But its nice to see that the JF-17 project is moving forward. Because it has been so quiet for so long around the JF-17 that i thought the project was abandoned!

Can Pakistan refurbish and maintain the RD-93's themselves or do they need to send those engines back to China or Russia ?

Pakistan is really going to push for export when it comes to the JF-17, they did it with the Mushak they did it with the K-8 so no doubt they will do it with JF-17

Also now it seems like PAC is going to add another production line, this time for the first time ever it will be not fixed wing by rotary wing aircraft, I am talking about the deal between Turkey and Pakistan the attack helicopter T-129, Turkey has full intellectual rights so exporting is not problem

It's something PAC should have established long ago but better late than never, Pakistan can get access to much of the technology and T-129 would be a formidable attack platform

If PAC can get the production line going it would mean we can sustain a large attack helo fleet by itself, T-129 would be like the JF-17 but for helicopters
