It seems that at least PakDef is uses the measurement system of the Roman Empire, with its inches and pounds.. The Chinese are using the kg and mm of the International System.

Legacy of Pakistan's British colonial rule.

I know, but I thought that by now the US was the only retarded country. And even the US motor industry and NASA have switched to the reasonable system.

Friends this criticism is quite uncalled for. I see nothing related to JF17 in the above posts. You could easily convert the figures from PAC website into metric: 1kg = 2.204 lb. 1 inch = 2.54 cm. 1NM = 1.852 km.

The figures you allude to are from PAC website. PakDef has nothing to do with it.

My mistake, Zahid. But why did PAC use it?
I got my lectures on gas turbines from an English professor, because we had to be able to handle those imperial units because the US aeronautical industry was and is the leader in the world. I'm still pretty well able to convert between kg mass and slug and all those other units just in my head but I haven't needed it for two score years.

Interesting. If CAC can keep the costs rising down then a JF-17 with a slightly lower forward RCS could be useful for countries which need it like Pakistan... could be helpful simply in BVR combat?

We'll have to wait and see how extensive this optimization is...

Huitong is reporting the FC-1 recently flew with a WS-13 engine and the forward fuselage is being optimized for stealth.

Perhaps Chengdu is hoping that a completely indigenous FC-1 with enhanced stealth capabilities can finally snag a contract for the FC-1 with the PLAAF?

Or simply that it will make a great export potential, now with newer versions of the F-16 (like Block 60) taking up orders.

A stealthy version, coupled with its relatively low price, will have greater force when trying to push into international markets.
