We need a better look at it.

The details of the intakes are not real clear. The configuatrtion on the aft end of the thing and how the engines are configured in terms of stealth and IR are not clear.

I'd like a good head on view of it as well.

In terms of the very basic location of the engines, the cockpit, the intakes, the high wings etc. of course it has features similar to the F-15. In general, most modern twin engine fighters do, including the most "basic" configuartion of the F-22.

Whatever works for JSDF to boost recruitment I guess.

I wanted to post AKB48 pictures but 99% of them are in bikinis not sure if that violate the rules. Equation is probably googling away...

As for me personally I HOPE the US Armed forces never ever uses some teeny bopper or girl band as a recruiting tool.

also as this is a technology demonstrator. I think I read somewhere that the cockpit glass is taken from a F15J as is the landing gear.

No the cockpit glass is appropriate from T-4 as well as the pilot seat. The landing gears are from the T-2.

They will no replace it since it just a technological test bed and not intended for mass production.
As for basic location of the engine they should probably offset the air intake with the engine turbine fins so this too would not have any resemblance.

As I understood it, they were targeting these ads at High School teenagers. I do not understand Japanese, but this is one of the ads they are using I believe.

Its good to see Japan moving forward with development of an indigenous air superiority platform. Will definitely help keep a lot of skills sharp industrial base wise.

Not necessarily military but;

Mitsubishi Electric eyes F-35 missile deal with Europe's MBDA

TOKYO — Mitsubishi Electric has agreed to take the first step toward a partnership with European missile maker MBDA to develop a medium-range air-to-air missile for the F-35 stealth fighter, two people with knowledge of the matter said.

The preliminary deal marks an extension of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s bid to launch Japan’s military suppliers into the global arms market through international tie-ups, and thereby bring down costs for Japan’s defense procurement.

If successful, it would represent the first time Japanese-built components had been used on a missile sold overseas, one of a string of potential international arms deals to emerge since Abe’s government moved in April to end a more than four decade-old ban on military exports.

The value of the missile-development deal remains unclear. Mitsubishi Electric has agreed to start a feasibility study, one of the people said.

Mitsubishi Electric, better known for making refrigerators and vacuum cleaners, is the prime supplier of air-to-air missiles to Japan’s Self-Defense Forces, including a medium-range model, the AAM-4, used on its F-15 fighters and locally designed F-2 jets. It is also a leading supplier of satellites to the Japanese government.....to read more

Here is an up-date and answer to why the two companies were considering a tie-up.

Japan, Britain to launch joint missile research

TOKYO — Japan said Thursday it would join forces with Britain to jointly develop missile technology for fighter jets, while also moving to export Japanese-made parts for U.S. surface-to-air missiles.

The decision comes several months after Japan lifted a self-imposed ban on weapons exports, as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe looks to expand Japan’s diplomatic and military presence on the global stage.

The exports would be the first since Japan in April approved a new policy that replaces its 1967 blanket ban on shipping arms overseas.

The joint research with Britain was linked to a European missile project called Meteor, with an initial emphasis on how current Japanese technology could enhance British-developed missiles, according to a statement jointly issued by several ministries, including Japan’s foreign and defense ministries.

The Meteor project, which is developing missiles for Eurofighter planes, is being led by Franco-British missile maker Matra BAe Dynamics (MBD) along with other European firms.....to read more

Looks as if Mitsubishi Electric is going to provide the targeting component to up-grade the Meteor AAM.

CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Japan's defense ministry wants funding to purchase Osprey aircraft starting next year, with the addition of more than a dozen tilt-rotor aircraft over the next few years, despite homegrown protests and concerns regarding the aircraft's safety.
