,They rather eat grass then not having the bomb and they are not crazy.
Putin Pretty much said word for war what you have and I heard this same from others before.
Now the South Korean issue is at the heart of the matter. Both sides will if kept in this stalemate continue to claim the other. is Illegitimate.
back in the early 80's and 70's North Korea was the better positioned of the two halves but with the start of the modern era the North remained frozen well the South took off like a Rocket.
Today Militarily North Korea cannot in a conventional war stand against South Korea alone. It's Airforce is tiny, it's armor is outdated and it's infantry masses would be massacred and all it could do is level Seoul.
It's Nuclear program is targeting 3 fold.
1st To Hold the South and US to Ransom. ie to prevent regime change by outside parties.
2nd.To hold North Korea to Ransom.
Kim has purged the leadership almost as often as some people buy new shoes. His Father set in place military rule but the young Kim is no General. The Army has grown massive and as such is a threat to the Kim-dom. A Nuclear armed Korea may allow kim to sap power from the military and expand his own. This has however yet to happen and with the unknown status of Kim Han-sol and no indications of a Male heir Kim Jong Un is on rocky ground for a power base. One CNN interviewed Defector put it like this "I can tell you for sure, the North Korean regime will collapse within 10 years."
Well Saddam was killed long after the war Gaddafi was killed on the spot.
3 Money. Kim's father used Nuclear tech to extort, after a number of nuclear tests it's been indicated that the Iranians have been present on the ground. Remember years ago the Israelis learned of a Syrian Nuclear site after a train wreck in North Korea resulted in a massive blast and the aid planes starting to load lead coffins with Syrian citizens for return home.
Now why the missile tests? Kim is feeling the pressure in hopes the US will suddenly yield like the past 4 US Administrations did. He wants to hit a point where he can get money or aid or concessions that he can use to reinforce his power base.
That means getting the Japanese upset because they are the deal breaker southeast Asia. Like the Israelis in the Middle East, If the Japanese were angered enough to retaliate South Korea might jump ship. So the North Koreans have pointed missile tests there way. Because they know the the Single Allie of both the Japanese and South Koreans, The United States of America will try to field the Response in their place. Much like how the US started hunting Scuds after Saddam launched them at Israel in the Gulf war.
The China side is that China does not want a US Treaty Ally on any of it's borders, They would rather Maintain the disaster of the DPRK than allow that. The problem for China is that the Kim in charge is unstable more so than his Father or Grandfather. Now China seems to think they can use that to there advantage. However if this backfires it will backfire bigtime. As Kim ratchets up tensions even South Koreans more open to concessions are increasingly being dragged along.
A gallup poll from South Korea in August stated that 68% of South Koreans wanted the Return of Tactical Nuclear weapons to South Korea with 60% even wanting to develop their own bomb. Even without the Bomb this means that the current leadership is in a position where removal of THAAD is even less likely in fact based on the way things are going it could force the Blue house into a position where it needs to bring in more More missile defences More THAADS, and draw in More US forces to South Korea and Japan bringing more attention to the Chinese Coasts.
