Very interesting to find out how much this baby J-35/A would cost per plane, how much cheaper than J-20 and how much more expensive than J-10C. Obviously would be between the two. Would it be possible after mass produced, to reach cost ~parity with J-10C ?
Shilao had mentioned the goal set by the air force was US$80 million total cost per unit and the navy catapult variant had no such budget concerns for getting relatively higher specifications as they would likely be purchasing fewer numbers of the J-35.

To me it looks a lot big. J-31A. I think it might be 30% bigger not surprise.

okay, so roughly 20% less than J-20, if J-20 unit cost is $100M which I think is getting lower and lower

If it is true, the main reason for PLAAF to get J-35 may not be the lower unit cost, but something else as @tphuang mentioned before here J-35A fighter (PLAAF) + FC-31 thread

What's that green stuff? Is the coating wearing off?

If you look at other pictures of that aircraft, it seems like this is a prototype that they'd applied a coating on somewhat partially -- the trailing edge flaps of the wings also show a thin line of the exposed green primer below.

Either it's a prototype that was flown very thoroughly, or it's a prototype that was only recently painted possibly for purposes of the air show.
Regardless, there's not too much to read into, and I am not sure I would call it a "coating" because that implies it is covered by some sort of RAM.
