Well, the whole reason behind F-35 design was precisely to be able to use PGMs within line of sight.
So again, it's unfair to criticize jet for its primary requirement.
In the end, unpowered munitions (including those with a more traditional L : D ratio) have their unquestionable pros.
Just two different jets - two different sets of priorities - two different approaches. J-XY is undoubtedly more slender, and (probably) way more a2a-centric.
Nowhere in that post did I criticize the F-35 for that, in fact given the role of the F-35, I think it is a perfectly reasonable design choice and solution for what they wanted -- seeking to use F-35s to be capable of launching large diameter unpowered strike weapons.
However, for the PLA, launching unpowered large diameter strike weapons from the internal weapons bay of a stealth fighter is probably quite a bit lower on their list of priorities.
If the part "somewhat more sensible" is the triggering part, if it makes one feel better, i meant it of course in the context of PLA priorities and requirements.
