J-35 carrier fighter (PLAN) thread

I wouldn't bet on it being named J-35 once it gets into service. Look closer at that picture. They put J-35 in brackets.
Besides a university isn't the military even if Beihang University does have close ties to it.

This is interesting but I'm not quite calling it yet -- the placement of J-35 in brackets when preceded by "new generation carrierborne fighter aircraft" is either there because the aircraft type is new (and therefore using J-35), or the J-35 is placed there by whoever in the university made the poster as a commonly circulated name for the aircraft.

If Mr Sun himself uses the J-35 designation then that would basically seal it, but at this stage I'm not yet sure if this is the university organizer taking some liberties.

I sort of get the jump from j-teens to j-20 , designation wise.
But for the love of me, I don't understand the jump from j-20 to j-35. Even j-30 would be slightly more logical. (Though still a waste, not using so many numbers in between)

What is next? To have the next new design be j-50? If they're skipping 15 numbers again.

If only politics and bad marketing weren't in charge of something so basic as model designations..

In fact, Russia led with the "5th generation" fighter aircraft designation, the American quickly follows suit in reclassifying its fighter aircraft generations. As of now, the Chinese is still hopeless stuck with the "4th generation" fighter aircraft as their latest generation.

Talk about what's in a name.

That "trying to keep up" is a childish vanity "dxxx" contest without any substance. What can one gain from a bigger digit? None. "sticking to 4th gen" is why I respect PLA and have much higher faith in what Chinese government and PLA says being truth compared to the other countries, because China does not (or much less) bluff and exaggerate.

I just hope PLA and China keep being itself and not become something that I always despise.

I think they are gonna keep going with their own generations and the likes.

As for the jumps in numbers? Eh could be the case with the FC-31 or maybe not, even if it jumped it wouldn't be that problematic imo.

doesn't really matter what it's called. only matters if it can keep up with F35C. if we go by the numbers of FC-31 flyer that was distributed by SAC in past conventions, i think it'll have the advantage on max speed but i'm not sure about the rest.

Well, F-35C isn't exactly a speed demon.

FC-35 will add considerable fire power to a carrier air wing

its smaller size will ensure many more units can fit on the carrier with higher sortie rate

cant wait for the 1st launch!

it won't be named as FC-35 if it is officially navy project.
