Re: New Generation Fighter

Chen zhongyan, a well known military insider in China, recently talks abut the JXX:

Chen's background:

He had worked in aero-related China military industry, and then obtained his doctor degree from one of two best graduate schools in the area of aero-engineering in China, and he is now enlisted in the PLA.

According to him:

CAC's 5th generation fighter has already done in 2009 (besides perhaps only lacks engines), it is likely this year this fighter can get maiden flight and we may see this thing very soon.

According to him, the fighter is "very science-fiction looking", the fighter's layout is fully blended, thus you can not tell wing from the body as clear as you do with today's aircraft (一体化气动布局), althrough B-2 is likely an exmaple of being fully blended.

The AESA radar, control interface, weapon systems (AAMs) for the fighter are all ready, and the engine, WS-15, is near ready, althrough it is still likely to use WS-10 for maiden flight.

So that'd suggest a maiden flight this year... Is it the same April-ish deadline that was given a few months back?
I wonder of the weapon systems include the PL-10/PL-ASR... We keep waiting...

^ ASR=Advanced Short Range
PL-ASR's a different name for the PL-10 which is a Chinese equivalent to the Aim-9X, IRIS-T, ASRAAM etc.

Re: New Generation Fighter

very good posters have been hinting a trial flight by April of this year and that is entirely possible. However they may very well curtail it's news until after expo, provided it does not conflict with the space station launch.

According to a guy working in CAC, this fan's art looks 95+% like the real thing, besides the leading edge at the tail is still a little bit shorter than the real thing.

Hmmm ... an impressive design ! Thanks for posting.

Do You have any idea - or at least a suggestion - when we will see the first real glimpse of that type ... and will the first flight of the PAK-FA change anythink on the previous plans ??

I always thought the exhaust nozzles would by of the 3D thrust vectoring type...like the Russians, not a 2D F-22-style nozzle.
