Re: New Generation Fighter

According to a guy working in CAC, this fan's art looks 95+% like the real thing, besides the leading edge at the tail is still a little bit shorter than the real thing.

Oh dear lol.... Let's hope it looks better in the real thing. (So stubby!... And the wings look too small for the fuselage..)

I think the nozzles are probably a figment of the artist's imagination. We've seen no F-22style or even F-15 VISTA/ACTIVE (whatever it was - the F-15 with the canards and flat nozzles) type rectangular exhausts from China... They'll probably be just round ones with 3D TVC.

lol if that design its true it'd be the first time ever that the Chinese came up with something that looks as impressive as an American aircraft LOL

Deino, I really dont know the exact time, but I think from all informations I get, its should be soon (e.g. 2010 or 2011).

Lol, I am afraid you will be diappointed, I think the real thing will be most likely quite stubby-looking, especially the top view, since it is know has installed a pairs of very large leading edge/strakes, so from the top view, the fighter will looks fat

Someone who have saw the real thing, described it as a "frog".

Lol, it seems that they get smarter recently, J/K

Well, jokes aside, it is natural when the large scale of wind-tunnels are in place, do you know how many money they put to update/expand their wind tunnels since 1990s, now we have the third largest wind-tunnel complexes in the world, and will soon to become the 2nd.

I thought it would have incorporated moving LERXs like the T-50?

Yes, it have, but that's just a fan's art, that fanboy don't know alot of 2D/3D art softwares, also, F-23 also get moving LERXs but from a top-view you can not tell it as easy as you do with the pak-fa.

My amateur eyes seem to tell me that most of the stealth planes look kind "stubby". B2, F116A, F22, F35 and even the T-50. If you look from the top, they all look fat.

Personally I find it hard to believe that the plane will have canards, I think if canards made sense then the Russians or Americans would have used them.

True, but like this fan art has the nose and cockpit/fuselage part be like half of the whole plane's surface area (practically).
I think I should've said "whoa this nose is huge" instead. But I suppose as long as it performs well it shouldn't matter... (but also there is that idea that planes which perform well usually look good... meh).

Different objectives and different requirements, different times, J-XX's layout is determined in 2001, thats about 15 years later than F-22's layout get finalized.

Following your logic, it is hard to believe F-22 can be stealth considering F-22 looks so different to the first stealth aircraft, F-117A built just 10 years earlier.

Re: New Generation Fighter

I always thought the exhaust nozzles would by of the 3D thrust vectoring type...like the Russians, not a 2D F-22-style nozzle.
3D nozzles require complex flight control system and are a nightmare to maintain, while 2D nozzles are easier to implement, easier to maintain, and the arrangement like F-22's can flatten the aft-fuselage to provide extra lift and reduce drag.

Personally I find it hard to believe that the plane will have canards, I think if canards made sense then the Russians or Americans would have used them.
Keep in mind that F-22 was designed in the 80's, understanding in flight control and aerodynamics improved significantly since then, while PAK-FA is just something the Russian thrown together so they have something to show the world.
