Quite a few posts back when everybody was back slapping each other over Chinas J20 one member posed the question "what of Europe" with the financial crisis they will be too poor to develop anything to match or counter the J20.

Although not in the design class of the J20, how about the UK's Taranis. Its a unmanned fast Jet demonstator, the size of a Hawk trainer. Its one of the worlds largest UCAV, that is stealthy, travels vast distances. While primarily built for survellience, it also can deploy a range of munitions over selected targets as well as defend itself against manned and unmanned craft.

Just imagine if different variants were built such as specialised J20 hunter killers. Lacking a pilot, so t you could pull more G's, thus making it ideal for dogfighting and all that sort of stuff. And after expending all the muntion one could kamikaze it into an enemy plane.. Sacrificing one cheap UCAV over a more expensive and crewed J20 would be a pretty good swap huh?

First of all no way could that airframe be that of a fighter.

Second of all why would Europe create a counter measure to the J-20?
I see you guys said Stop! Stop! Stop! but you never stop. Unless you stop replying to the posts of MKI, it won't stop. Now, stop replying, including mine.

Back to topic...
It has been speculated, that I almost considered it as true, that the J-20 would fly within this week. This morning, on sina.com I saw a post of a reviewing stand setup at Chengdu's airport which confirms that there would be big events soon. Now, how credible is this news, experts?

Dude you are so out. The stupid flight was cancelled yesterday (apparently due to bad weather or something). We may have to wait till it is a perfect sunny day so the photographers could get the best pictures.

Sacrificing an even cheaper An-jian for such a UCAV is a pretty good swap as well.

Building a UCAV for attacking ground targets is different to building an unmanned UCAV for air to air combat able to pull more Gs than a manned fighter... even if it had all the necessary avionics and air to air missiles the other sides 5th gen fighter can just supercruise or out manouever from the kill zone.

I mean it'd be a good swap... if it were possible at all.

(And kamikazing into an enemy plane??? Seriously??)

It'll be decades until a viable air to air UCAV is developed.

LOL it's funny because it actually works...

I wonder if PLAAF has plans for the J-20 to direct ground attack UCAVs. This will actually be a pretty deadly combination, as if you leave the UCAVs alone, they will destroy your surface assets. If you go after them, you will get picked off easily by J-20s.

Alright, even the Chinese sites got cooled down and folks now panning it'd be 11th for maiden flight due to favorable weather (y'know, the whole "the authority wants the best pics and vids to show the world" deal).

Now, I think we all agreed there's some really "heavy weight" showed up yesterday for that kind of security, and it turns out quite...heavy. According to Hong Kong's Mingpao newspaper, senior officials like Xi Jinping and the PLAAF Chief of Staff, plus a few more, were on site listening to the briefing by CAC project personnel...think they also look inside the engine yesterday too eh?

There might be another clue to the "engine breakthrough", on Jan 6th, the PLA issued commendation to an air force engineer. Besides, if it ain't "Made in China", there won't be such a crowd at the engine exhaust yesterday.

We discussed that a few pages back . Apparently Rafale will have the capability to direct Neuron UCAVs so it won't be impossible for J-20 to direct UCAVS like Warrior Eagle or such.
But any man-in-the-loop controller will be out of the combat zone.

On 6th Jan, Chinese aircraft engine expert Gan Xiaohua(甘晓华) was awarded First Class Merit Citation by The Military Commission of the Central Committee.

and that's news from official site of Ministry of National Defence

Another thing. If I am not mistaken the mid-stage missile intercept occured on the 11th of January as well. China is getting into the pattern.

It'll be really cool since it will be 1/11/11!!!
