It is cost, not size which determines whether an aircraft is high or low.

Yes but if an aircraft is as big as we think then there's little way it can be considered "low" in the traditional sense.

Lol, must be pretty confusing for those who are not aware of the 2 different naming conventions. We're talking about China new generation fighter over here in this thread. So it's safe to assume that over here:

4th Gen = Chinese 4th Gen which is equivalent to Western 5th Gen
5th Gen = Western 5th Gen which is equivalent to Chinese 4th Gen

That's completely misunderstood. The class category PLAAF is using is Western, which is the fourth generation. The Russians are the only ones that use five generation class system. The situation is more like Chinese Vs Russian, instead of Chinese Vs West.

In today's day and age, it is common sense that larger plane equates to more cost. Fighter jets are much more valued than day to day vehicles. They are not like cheap pickup trucks made by Suzuki for third world countries. Increased size doesn't mean bigger frame and more empty space. Engineers always try to fit in as many avionics as possible into those things. On top of that, the materials used to make those jets are all super expensive. A square meter of carbon fibre worth as much as a brand new lower end Mercedes.

Depends on how you look at. China doesn't have the military industrial complex like in the US. There aren't many "private" companies providing components to the PLA that need to make a profit adding to the cost. The J-20 won't be more expensive than the F-22 and I wouldn't be surprised in the end that it won't be more expensive than the F-35 seeing how the price tag for developing that fighter seems to keep rising.

A large chunk of money for a modern fighter goes into sensors and avionics, unlike a traditional fighter. So don't consider it in the traditional sense.

The US switched to five generations classifying system if I recall correctly.

A photo from the blog of peishens, a big shrimp from CJDBY who was recently exposed as a military journalist working for Global Times and the South China Weekend. Some of his articles were also published on the People's Daily:

Not sure someone drew this after the fact.
