Project 718 is the engine, not the airframe of J-20.

The Chinese banner of the famous pic reads "718验证机工程..." actually plays words around - it is a 'tech demonstrator' indeed - that is some other plane using project 718's new engine.

J-20 is a kick-ass woul-be-in-service 5th gen fighter on her own right. with, or without, the "Project 718" engine. (Of course we would like it WITH the new engine.)

- Just a clarification to the twisted origin of some paid-experts claiming the J-20 itself being a "tech demo".

It just makes them feel better about themselves to claim things like that. Tech demo people are the same bunch as the "P.S." people and the "no weaponsbay people" and "bomber" people.

^ As I said, there are some certain unwritten things to abide by. Like saying J-10 is just a Lavi, or J-20 is just a "tech demonstrator".

If you post supporting those kind of ideas without a convincing argument, while deliberately moving to "bash" something then you're going to get flak for it. Hell you'll get a few SAMs if your arguments aren't even logical... (re the discussions about J-20 performance thread)

And there are no "rules" saying this thread only allows "news" and photos -- unless you are referring to Deino's mod post.
I'll take some liberty here and say that I believe he wasn't declaring that a rule, but rather that he just didnt' want another long winding debate that you seem to always spark with issues on the J-20.

Basically, we want to avoid many pages of you debating with the likes of latenlazy, johnqh, me, plawolf and the like, which will make it hard to track down the real news and photos. A few posts that isn't news/photos should be alright as long as it doesn't go on for ten pages or something..

that is okay with me, but i do not find my argument was based speculation, here most of us are fans with no real base to claim things, if deino is fair, then can not accept people like air superiority claims my comments should not be written here.

I am not chinese and i do not have those ultranationalistic views of many members here so a little critic of the J-20 stir irracional views on many members who can not share antagonistic view, i feel unfair a small comment by me is overblown to the degree they want to exclude me from opining here.

If this is a thread news you should abide just by comments by the news, and the news were pogyiosan was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying tech demostrator.

So i feel quit offensive discriminate a view that does not fit the mostly nationalistic view that many have here.
Then my commenst were not out of the context were pretty much on the news.

But , it is logic people here get bother if you critizise the J-20 if they can not accept non natioinalistic assesments.

The Problem with the J-20 critics/doubters/bashers is that there's been nothing close to hard facts based on which they can make their critics convincing enough not to be annoying.

Granted, the J-20 lovers don't have many hard facts regarding the aircraft's many aspects, either. But they at least have a comparatively huge base of quasi-insider leaks that have more than often and since the early J-10 era proven quite accurate, enough to make them impatient with the "bullshit" dished out time and time again by the "cluess" critics.

In principle agreed with Your statement, but to admit - and that's the reason why I try to keep the new's-tread as clean from such discussions as possible - numerous posts of the more or less same arguments forth and back doesn't lead us to anything since - like You said - no one here has a real inseight into such projects.

As such ... at least IMO everyone is free to post his/her opinion and otherwise we all should be free to draw our own conclusions.

Regarding this one, it has caused a lot of discussion in several other forums (esp. I know at the Key-forum) and as far as I understod the final conclusion was that Mr. Pogosyan was (again as so often by RIA Novosti) not quoted in the full contex but only this part was used ... IMO because of pure nationalistic reasons on behalf of the Russian medi. :(
