I'm not sure about that, but I would think designing, manufacturing and testing cannot happen in the same location. Moreover, 2001 has gone to another site. Anyone know how they transported the plane to that location?

BTW, where is this second location (Yan....) located?

J20's design, manufacturing, and initial flight testings were all conducted within the Chengdu facility. The huge complex consists of three parts, the AVIC Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute (611th Institute) designed the aircraft, the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (132rd Plant) manufactured it, and the Wenjiang Airfield is where testings are conducted. The CAC's several assembly plants have doors directly open to Wenjiang Airfield's tarmac.

2001 flew itself to China Flight Test Establishment (CFTE) located at Yanliang, Shaanxi Province for advanced flight envelope and avionics testings, later gaining type certificate from PLAAF. The first batch of PLAAF active officers will also familiarize with the type there. Then the plane will be moved to Dingxin Airbase (14th Base) in Gansu Province for weapons integration and combat tactics development. While Yanliang is not in the middle of a city it's still pretty accessible for regular folks, there are several villages right next to the runways, the same can't be said for Dingxin, the closest you can get is more than three miles away.

@ MiG-29 & peperez !!!

Would You plese STOP ... no more postings on Latin-America, no helicopters, ... :(

I respectfully disagree.

We are not talking about helicopters or Latin American affairs, but about Chinese joint ventures, ToTs and offsets and THIS is important to analyze future J-10, JF-17 and J-XX commercial success.

Sorry

Chengdu complex is very impressive and bigger than a lot of US and European research centers. I was in both and Chengdu is BIGGER than Airbus Toulouse!

According to wall-climbers from CJDBY it will be bad to use a camera or even have your phone out at Yanliang. The security over there is much much tighter.

wow you have been to China on a technical visit, man my respects, i am just an university student, but for what i see you must be a Brazilian Government official or aerospace worker, are you from Embraer, helibras? by the way, why were you at chengdu? and what is your opinion obout the J-20 program.

How the world has changed, in the 1980s China was flying J-8Is, in Brazil you were making Bandeirantes EMB-120, in Mexico we had no aerospace industry of importance in 2012 China flies J-20s, in Brazil you make E-190s, in mexico we started building the learjet 85.

What is really interesting about the J-20 is that as people of emerging nations we can see the achievement of our nations, is pretty interesting to see that in the 1980s to be honest i never thought China was going to be building J-20s or Brazil making E-190s and much less in my country assemblying jets.

Now China has 2 J-20s and it seems they have achieved some parity with Russia and Europe up to some degree, you in Brazil are still leaders with civil aircraft and my nation is just barely starting to build an aviation industry from the ashes of 1920s great days of mexican aviation.

Perhaps by 2030 the aerospace panorama will be even more interesting than now

And that is the name of that tune, hopefully they will resume the Chengdu daily airshow with 2002, I do hope we get to see our big sister occasionally, I am excited to see what the envelope expansion will bring to the J-20 fleet. If they find any uglies, 2001 will likely get the upgrades and 2002 will likely see them next? I really don't expect to many issues, well let me rephrase that, I don't expect to see to many major issues.
