Well, that was first posted on #1913...and by the same company's announcement, the Project 2920 was first mentioned in 2009, but back then they called it a prototype.

Now this comes as an afterthought: the company's flaunted their achievement as "despite technology blockade by US and Russia", does that mean such component only those 2 countries able to make? Does any of those European nations able to make something like this?

I think China has hypersonic wind tunnels that can go above Mach 3, but probably nothing of the scale that can test the full sized J-20 before.

Apparently for very high speeds they test it in bursts of air rather than continuous flow.

'shrug'...not?
CAC wants 3D TVC nozzles as they said to Salyut, so I don't believe in 2D nozzles fanarts

that would be interesting since it seems T-50 will have a F-22 flat nozzles in later batches with a 17 tonnes engine class type 129, only prototypes and early batches will have round nozzles

"Изделие 129" - рабочее название этого двигателя - еще совершенствуется, у него должно быть плоское сопло для меньшей заметности радарами противника

leaving J-20 as the only fighter with round nozzles among the three

You forget the F-35.

The T-50 is going to need them.

to be honest, i think if the J-20 gets engines in the 17 tonnes class as PAKFA will, they will revert to flat nozzles.

Russia will do it the early prototypes of T-50 all are going to have round nozzles, even the first batches Russia will recieve in 2015, but later on late batches will have flat nozzles.

Looking at J-20 i do not think China has the engine to power even now J-10s and J-11s, and let alone the J-20, proof is they are still buying Al-31s and Ukranian engines for L-15.

But i think once 129 is available 117 will be available for China so Chengdu said to saturn sell us the engine of Su-35, so i do not think China is ahead on WS-15 as especulated and even ahead of Russia, PAKFA has now 3 flying prototypes, but we are not seeing the definitive PAKFA, that will be available by 2017 i think

Apparently WS-15 development is doing quite well, and that's from concentrated investment into these high end engines compared to smaller thrust engines like ones which are meant to power the L-15. The continuing Al-31 purchases mean nothing wrt WS-15 development, if that is what you imply because that is because WS-10's production can't keep up with airframe production (as well a to replace old Al-31s).

As for nozzles, who knows -- we're all hearing that J-20 will have 3D, but we know the chinese have looked into 2D before and there's no reason future J-20 upgrades or batches cannot have 2D if they deem it necessary.
I'm more interested in whether WS-15 will actually be able to give the 17-18 tons of thrust we've been hearing about. Time will tell I suppose.

Thats a huge pile of speculation.

About flat noozles, im not sure that T-50 can get them without a major redesign of the plane. Besides, the engines are not integrated with the fuselage. I dont think that it would gain that much stealth. And it would lose the 3d noozles. Thats why i doubt that T-50 will get flat nozzles.

Apparently WS-15 development is doing quite well

Really? any news of it? Has the engine been flown yet or it is still in the lab ?

I don't think it's flown yet -- that would be huge news. Just following, like tphuang's blog and other credible posters the sound is that WS-15's progress is pretty solid.
