Agile enough to take on the F-22 I presume ^^
It's not that much bigger than the T-50.

I think it was Bill or perhaps Carlo but one of those guys touched on this. Currently, and perhaps, in the future (talking the J-20's projected production year; 2020), the J-20 will not have the high-powered, 2D or 3D thrust-vectoring engines that it needs in order to have comparable agility that is on par with the F-22. It'll certainly be enough to handle a F-35 and perhaps duke it out with a comparable kill/death ratio v.s. the T-50, but it won't be faster or more maneuverable than the F-22 for a long-long time.

If F-22 needs those agility to come to play to deal with J-20...the kill ratio would have been dropped to unacceptable levels anyways, and battle would have been lost.

Not sure if I'm the only one noticing this, but I have noticed that although J-20 is bigger is size, its actual body volume is not that big compared to F-22. I had always been a supporter of the weapon bay prediction before noticing this trait.
You guys should really check out the pics of the two plane's bottom shot.

J-20 is longer but the is not thicker than the F-22. The tall landng gears contribute to the illusion of a thicker airframe.

Just another estimate of the J20's vital statistics.

Xu Yongling, one of China’s elite test pilots, told the Global Times that each test f(l)ight brings the craft closer to mass production.
‘The first 10 to 20 tests are meant to calibrate the entire aircraft, including its stability, handling qualities and performance. All of them are short in time, but the entire process will take years to complete,’ he said.

I don't know... the J-20 looks significantly larger than any of the other 5th gen fighters. Unless the people in the photos are a good 6" shorter.

Well currently the most optimistic induction of WS-15 is 2015... I think that's unlikely, so I'm thinking 2017-2019 is more probable. If the engine is all it's said to be (with 3D TVC, 5th generation thrust, supercruise etc) then without going into specifics it should be enough to take on the F-22 without too much drama before 2020.
Interesting that you imply the F-22 is more manouverable than the T-50... I think most people concede the T-50 could be a bit more agile, but given how little we know of each of the planes it's a bit indulgent to compare anything apart from their weight class and maybe their stealth shaping.

Nah its body volume is larger, simply because it's just that extra bit longer. But I think the J-20s weapon bay will be very similar to the F-22s.

Only length wise... and even then it's only a meter or a meter and a half at most longer than the T-50 or F-22.

I'm 5'11", and in China I'm considered tall.

Not that tall in China. ;)

You would be 2 or 3" above average, and 5'11 is about average for western countries. There is a difference in average height, but its nowhere near 6".

What more, its more the older generation who tend to be shorter, as nutrition has improved, younger people in China are getting taller and taller, if they bothered to break down average height by age group, the difference would be smaller still, and those powerranger uniformed guys are most certainly not old.
