It actually looks like the people were trying to maintain the weapons bay.

Just Asymptote trying to find fault with any and everywhere he can when it comes to anything Chinese. Nothing new to see and not worth wasting your time responding to. Haters will hate. No skin off our noses.

I am joking I am joking! But seriously, what's the real reason to fly with landing gears down?

Safety reasons. YF-23 flew its first flight with the landing gear down (Can't post due to copyright issues. It was removed from YouTube too).

(F-35C retracts it for a short period)

So either retract for a short period or do not retract at all....

From the rumors I have heard the T-50-1 did indeed retract the landing gear but for how long I don't know.....

If you take a look at some of the profile shots of the tail section, some in other forums have noticed the paint peeled away near the engine. Is the heat of the engine causing this?

And what takes more than a dozen men to fix ?? I thought it looks like 3-4 men is enough (it looks way too crowded to even work efficiently with so many people around).

Generally during testing every possible technician is available to render repairs/tweaking to the aircraft. Remember they are trying to get it right.

Why are they still flying with the landing gears down?
What's the real reason for this?
Are they so afraid that the engine might malfunction at any moment that they implemented this ridicules protocol so the aircraft can land quickly?

All prototype aircraft fly with landing gear down in the first few flights... zzz..

There are lots of spectators watching.
And chengdu is a heavily populated place.

We don't even know if this is their 'normal' test flight, at least I don't think so.

I tried to improve the quality of "no_name's" images, but it didn't work.

You mean this (it looks more like abrasion from the adjusting nozzle plates):

but there appears to be a bit of paint peeling on the aircraft tail body too. (or maybe it's just lighting)
