Consider not attaching or citing the Drive /War Zone. I am there and the website is not all that useful beyond knowing about US military affairs.
I don't see how removing canards would "dramatically" enhance the J-20 in any wayConsider not attaching or citing the Drive /War Zone. I am there and the website is not all that useful beyond knowing about US military affairs.
Case in point being the article you cited -
"Removing the big canards and re-certifying the complex flight control system would be a huge undertaking for the CAC engineers, but doing so could dramatically enhance the J-20."
What kind of nonsense is that? Removing Canards like plucking petals?
And don't get me started on the community. Bunch of aging guys who live in the 1990s who still thinks it's all Top Gun, struggling post USSR Russia and agricultural third world China.
Exactly. There will be no J20 without a canard. It can't be removed. It is with these canard that J20 managed to meet the spec/performance requirements of the PLAAF. The threat environment is simply too dangerous to have J20 fail for the PLAAF. The J20 isn't a stopgap or an experiment either (the author and the community over there presumes so).I don't see how removing canards would "dramatically" enhance the J-20 in any way

I used to think that, but I guess the J-20 has grown on me. Now I think the F-22's proportions look "weird" - stubby and with oversized v-tails.The aircraft isn't as "sleek" as F22 (a widely held opinion to which I subscribe too, albeit reluctantly) but it reflects poorly on the observer's knowledge of aviation to use that to conclude it is less capable than the F22.
That's true almost everywhere in the English-speaking world. I long since stopped caring; now I just shrug it off with my favourite proverb: the dogs bark, but the caravan moves on. It's an Arabic proverb, and the caravan was going to China. Silk Road 1.0.I think the writers do a okay job but I agree the commenters and mods are a hateful bunch. Say something positive about China or its military gear and you are deemed a wu-mao/50cent shill.

Yet it's still copied. China somehow went its own way with the J-20 yet still copied it. China Derangement Syndrome.Western pundits have had a massive hard on to crap on the J20’s canards from the very start, and the reason for all that hate? China dares to go its own way instead of blindly following western orthodox.
Guys, I'm not sure what to make of this write up from a retired air force Indian officer.
Highlights:
J20 not stealthy as it has big canard. As well as required to carry external tanks and munition making it unstealthy.
It's not as good as Rafale. Because it can't supercruise. Not combat proven. And only just enter first batch production.
It is also a copy of F22 and F35 by stealing from US!
Rafale coming in! How Rafale fighter jets fare against the Chinese PLAAF fighters?
The PAF had acquired the F-16 Fighting Falcons a couple of years before. This time around, with the induction of the Rafale, does the IAF need more than a catchy tag line to keep the PLAAF at bay?
