Too much speculation presented as fact, indeed. Previous writers at warzone seemed to do a better job of not going down the sensationalist route.
The bottom-line is that the canards are integral part of the whole design, removing it is like putting a rail-gun on an arleigh burke built decades ago.I don't think they're suggesting this as a possibility - they're just speculating based on what they think should be done with the plane.
