Well it’s a brand new airframe with new design changes. Only makes sense to fit it with existing and proven power plants to reduce risks. Testing new engines is usually a job left to dedicated testbeds, so the way I see it CAC’s mounting ws10 on this new jet because that’s what they have available and what can actually be used in production right now.well if this modified J-20 variant powered by WS-10C, it means WS-10C is capable of surpercruiser or just that prototype is for testing for future WS-15 engine.
sir i m talking about modified variant of J-20 powered by WS-10C as onenienty says this modification is for supersonic flights.
but most probably this is for WS-15 engine.

CAC changed the J-20 design for WS-15 engine. it clearly means engine is not too far away. as we all know that WS-15 flew first time in summer 2021.edit: if they’re changing this much it makes sense for this new design to be “for ws15”. However since ws15 as far as we know is still undergoing testing and not near production, it also makes sense for them to go forward with the design changes and stick ws10 on there for the time being while they wait for ws15 to enter production.
I never said ws15 is far away, what I said was that ws15 is currently not ready for production (which as far as we know is true)CAC changed the J-20 design for WS-15 engine. it clearly means engine is not too far away. as we all know that WS-15 flew first time in summer 2021.
first official confirmation of WS-15 flight from Chinese academy of engineering now this leaked pictures from Chengdu local reporter. strong indication of WS-15 being close.
Not exactly as bumpy as F35 and J35, but the DSI bump is noticeably shrinked?
