How authentic is this picture? It looks like 10-12 plates.

I remember seeing somewhere saying that it is a photoshopped picture of a known engine, probably American. That somewhere showed the original photo.

As well he should be,,,, does anyone else think this may be a bad development for the FC-31??? I fully approve of his promotion, but will he continue to allow the FC-31 to be fully developed??

I'm not saying it is a bad development, and I like most here have great confidence in Yang Wei, though I will always remain a "devotee" of Dr. Song, as I believe Yang Wei is as well?
If he is a honest professional and I sincerely believe so, he would not and should not treat FC-31 in a way just because it was a rival to his own baby J-20. More than that, as the head of AVIC, FC-31 is also his baby now. If PLA really want FC-31, Yang Wei should and would do his best to make FC-31 successful. The bottom line is it is PLA, not AVIC (SAC & CAC), to determine the need, AVIC from whatever personal background should just fulfill PLA's demand whichever it may be.

Of course, individuals have personal interests, so it is natural to suspect favorism and rivaling between groups within AVIC, it is less likely compared to two independent rival companies.

gongke101, 2018-8-30, 13:04: In the recent 3 years, most people didn't have the chance to see the entire "15" engine. But many people still have the chance to see the flower of "15", assembled on "20". If you want to know the model of the engine, just count the number of external controllers of the flower. Taihang is 18 pieces, "31f" is16 pieces. If you didn't count it wrong, a simple count would show that the engine is "15". Amazingly simple.

In the next three years, not recent three years

The term used for nozzle here is literally chrysanthemum, or in the context, anus. So Gongke is calling us out for not being obsessed with the WS-15's... you know. ;)
He’s not calling anyone out for anything. 菊花 has been the conventional internet slang for engine nozzles for as long as I can remember in this hobby. The idea is not just that it’s the butt of the plane, but that the nozzles are like flower petals.
However, is Gongke suggesting that the J-20 is already running WS-15?
No. The proper translation of that section ”许多人还是有机会看见装在20上的15的菊花” should be “Many people have had the opportunity to see the version of the WS-15 nozzle that would be equipped on the J-20”.

Need to translate within context. "最近三年" is literally the recent 3 years, because gongke101 was talking about what people did. And "菊花" is Chrysanthemum, a flower analogous to the shape of the nozzle, where each piece of petal is a controller plate at the nozzle.

Pretty sure he meant most people will not have the chance to see WS-15 in the next three years

I'll stick to the anus interpretation; the point is that it's funny and would definitely be an in-joke among the hobbyist community. An anus, after all, also resembles a chrysanthemum.

Regarding vincent:

If I consult my copy of 现代汉语词典, what I get is: 指说话前或后不久的日子.

So soon is actually a valid reading, but when he goes to 没机会 he doesn't use the future tense modifier 会 prior and uses the particle 了 to denote something that's already happened. I think what Gongke is actually saying is that we should bother to count the petals on our J-20 pics, which is a horrible troll as petal counting is a rather unpleasant activity.
