An author quoting himself, another win for the diplomat for having crap for articles.
So what’s the production model weight?
Gongke confirmed that the J-20 with a lighter empty-weight than that of Su-27 was a prototype model (2001~2015). Due to problems with domestic engine development, 611 had to do whatever was necessary to shave off weight.
So what’s the production model weight?
Gongke, as far as I can tell, doesn’t mention anything about the WS-15.That's one way of improving the thrust:weight. 2001 to 2005 models so there's been close to a decade since the known underwhelming thrust of WS-15 program. Judging by the delay in applying this engine, they must have made efforts to correct the problem/s. The rumours of complete program restarts could be true then? considering that it's been probably more than 10 years now since testing original WS-15.
He once showed his credentials for Guizhou Liyang so assuming that he didn’t grift those documents from somewhere else we know for sure that he works there. If I remember correctly he’s a low level engineer. A lot of what he shares about things from outside of Liyang either come from collaboration Liyang has had with other AVIC subsidiaries or from hearsay that gets passed around from within AVIC more broadly. We don’t yet have confirmation for a lot of his claims because he’s not the sort of traditional high level leaker who pipes in to telegraph right before major reveal that we’ve grown used to. Instead what he shares is more akin to insider stories and qualitative details that are naturally very difficult to confirm. It also doesn’t help that he only recently became a regular poster and a lot of his claims that are checkable relate to engines which, due to their long development cycles, often take quite a while to confirm. What is that person Gongke's track records, credibility wise? What's his past ratio of claims that turned out to be true, compared to ones that didn't?
