The strange point is however that I don't know any Russian engine from Klimov powering any operational Chinese aircraft.

Klimov? I have a distinct feeling he is confusing J-31 V1 with the J-20. But regarding the weak engines, well nobody here is arguing about that (unless your are that super expert at pdf claiming J-20 is powered by 210 kN WS-15 right now).

Weak engines alone don’t suggest insufficient performance though, if the weight of the J-20 is as low as some sources are saying...

Reminds me of the Taiwanese minister of defense who couldn't distinguish between the J-20 and J-31.
