CCTV is hardly credible unless they're quoting some credible source. They're as bad as any other mainstream media when it comes to military equipment.
You should be :p. The differences between the WS-10's and AL-31's nozzles are pretty distinct, and clearly visible. The J-20 doesn't have the former.
But have we ever seen the nozzl3s of a special WS-10x variant? It could be modified to lower RCS. The J-20 doesn't have to be fielding a WS-10 u k. Ppl on this forum should be a little more open when it comes to the use of domestic engines (there's open hostility towards anyone refuting the Al-31 theory)

To admit we already discussed this discussion more than one ad nauseum !

My argument si: That nozzle looks like a AL-31FNxyz and I have a certain theory - not all might lke or agree with - but that alone is the most likely explanation.

In contrast all WS-10s we've seen so far are completely different and why should a WS-10 have a nozzle so much similar to an AL-31? Our specail friend would surely argue "all for deception" ...

But for me the probability of a WS-10 is nearly ZERO ... IMO it is more likely that there's asecret licence deal with a CHinese company to manufacture the AL-31 in China even if this is unlikely too.

This topic always split the fan-base. But I don't feel it makes any difference if J-20 is using AL-31 or WS-10 at this moment. Why does the current engines must be made in China? If Russia can make better engines at a lower cost, it is a better deal to purchase. We know the current version J-20 is usable to some degree, and the engine will be replaced by a domestic designed engine in a few years.

Now it is actually a great time for China to play catchup. Forcing everything even temporary solutions "made in China" creates waste for no gain

For some special guys it makes indeed a difference, in fact it is the most important issue to feel good or to bash others. It's a matter of national pride ..

Technically I agree with You but like I just said in another forum don't understand these internal quarrels. It's beyond my understanding how much a more or less scientific or technical issue can be decided to which party or group You want to belong?

I for myself admire China and it's achievements esp. in the aviation sector. In Western forums I'm usually called the "China-fan-boy" and even in a certain German forum I'm bashed as the "semi-official propaganda-man" since I try to defend their point of view and perception (esp. against India, the SCS and the USA) but why should I be a China-basher or why do some claim I wish any harm only due to my conclusion it uses a Russian originated engine?

Yep. Most consider military news a hobby to kill time, not too much different than football, or phones. After all, we are talking about information that is publicly available plus a level of speculation, which makes it interesting.

But we can't deny the nationalism sentiment is strong in China and many countries regarding military. Just take a look at nationalinterests.org you can see the US version of the same thing.
