So any new developments?? I would assume that Siege's image was of the 2101 and the "no serial bird" at Chengdu?? and which bird would the PAF have received??? hopefully we may have some more images shortly??

"Peoples Air Force" I was just lazy should have said PLAAF, LOL. I wondered who would say something first???? oh well, the PLAAF is supposed to have taken possession of at least one airframe, just wondering which one?

I am of the opinion that the J-20, even with AL-31 engines, will be sufficiently maneuverable for close-in combat against most 4th generation fighters.Thrust to weight is an important metric for gauging an aircraft's handling capabilities, but it is hardly the end-all metric. It is probably kinematically comparable to the F-35A in the current iteration.

Ofc even with " less " good engines.
But things want the comparison is with 5th generation mainly her rivals F-22, T-50.

if it weights 19.7 tonnes empty weight and it flies at 31 tonnes normal take off as the Chinese J-20N specification data says, no way it will be competitive even with the F-16 and much less with Eurofighter or Rafale if it has Al-31.
the jet needs minimum engines of 16 tonnes each and forget about supercruise with Al-31, it weighs far higher even at empty weight

Methodical, measured, and patient development of what will amount to the next 5th generation aircraft to go into production in what is likely to be a significant production run for the PRC.

Do we know which version of the AL-31 is on the J-20? What is the estimated thrust for that particular version of the engine?

I thought the basic consensus was that the J-20N spec was just BS?

Also keep in mind that the J-20 will have a clean configuration even when fully equipped, which will prove beneficial aerodynamically during combat.

Keep in mind that there won't be too many of those within China's vicinity (unlike the F-35s). I don't think the J-20 could match the F-22 even after WS-15s are ready.
