And I think it's too early for 2-seater. 2-seater should mean much of other things are already explored(my ignorant guess), so won't currently be too early for that?
I doubt it would be a two seater. It would only make sense to do a two seater after everything about the basic air frame (flight performance, subsystems, etc) has been tested and finalized.

You just look at all recent projects to see how far off a twin seat J20 is at present.

Look at the J10, J11B. How long after the first flight until the twin seater came out?

For the likes of the JF17 and F35 a twin seater has not been seen even though those aircraft are in production.

For a J20 twin seater to appear this early in the programme would completely break with all past precedents, and would be an extremely remote possibility in my book.

I don't know how or where to start a new thread, but there is this article saying that Chinese is making its 6th generation fighter.

I wonder about the truthfulness of the assessment. They are still perfecting the art of making jet engine, and now they are in 6th generation field?

I can't believe that this is serious. What do you guys think?

China defense mashup isn't known for the authenticity of what it writes.

And no one's defined what exactly a 6th generation must have yet. I'd be surprised if the various institutes haven't began making studies into their own visions of a next generation fighter, regardless of the engine issue.

Perhaps, but it still show the degree of maturity and how active are the Chinese aeronautical programs are coming along faster than anyone ever expected.

to expand on that further, a twin-seater will mean a required mission redesignation for the aircraft
something like the j-20 current prototype is obviously meant for single-seater

2nd, and if based on the current layout of trends of china's attitudes towards flankers and what china is investing in, which was studying the flanker airframe inside out and then turning it into j-11,j-15,j-16..etc for various roles, then it's kind of saying the next evolution stage of the chinese air force would consist of flankers as main workhorse. having said that, where would a twin seater j-20 come in for a place in this air force?

having said all that, i really doubt we will see much of a twin-seater j-20.

a twin seat J-20 will give credence to otherwise imaginary iron the interceptor naysayers have been striking since the beginning

I am guessing the change might have something to do with the internal structure of the aft fuselage section. Some stories floating around Chinese forums indicate there are some dissatisfaction from CAC over the work done by SAC.

Yeah, probably the old NIH syndrome, I know you're a CAC man, and I'm kinda a SAC man, but for those of us not privy, can you give us an overview of the SAC work? Thanks, AFB
