Why does a ESA need to be slanted? F-16V’s radome is neither slanted nor lacks pitot tube.
Maybe I rememberred it wrongly. The slant is more to do with RCS reduction and is designed for new airframes, not for in-place upgrade of old airframes. A matter of how much one want to pay for. Same for the pitot tube, removing it will be accompanied by installing sensors everywhere else, something not worth to do for limited upgrade.

Off hand comment from Orca about how new J-10S, which use WS-10 now, have new radars. Since we haven’t seen any J-10S with grey domes I think the assumption is safe.

So while I fully agree that radome colour should not be a definitive indicator for the status of the radar underneath it, I do think that a statement like "The newer J-10S all have AESA but the dome color is still black." shouldn't be thrown around too casually without major qualifiers.

If I'm not mistaken, then this is - besides being shown as a static display on air shows - the first time I see a J-10C carrying a full load of PL-10 and PL-12 AAM, a KD-88 training round and both a K/JDC03A target designator pod and a guidance pod.

Do we know what changes there are in radar, datalink, IRST and other avionics between J-10C in chinese service and J-10CE.

What radar does CE use actually, can it use JF-17C options or is it something else.

I believe the Chinese domestic datalink is replaced with Link 17. The cockpit layout looks like the JF-17 block iii more than the J-10B shot I’ve seen. Not sure about radar or other systems.

The radar has a much larger aperture than the one used on JF-17C. They won’t use that option.
I would imagine they wouldn’t use an air cooled radar as I think a big reason for the airframe changes on the B+ aircraft were to accommodate them. That said isn’t KLJ-7A scalable?
