J-10 bird strike back in Sep 4th 2020 led to crash in Guiling.
Something worth noting, the pilot said(3:55) it was carrying 5+ ton fuel almost full at the time and didn't mention anything about ditching the drop tank after the bird strike.
Does it mean J-10 can carry 5 ton+ fuel internally?

J-10A I think could carry 4 - 4.5 tons internally (upto 5000L)

Now you surprise me ... since when do the "newer J-10S all have AESA"? This is the first time I hear this!!!

@siegecrossbow, I hope not to annoy you with my impatience, but your comment "The newer J-10S all have AESA but the dome color is still black" is totally new to me! Since when do they already have an AESA fitted and where was this stated?

Off hand comment from Orca about how new J-10S, which use WS-10 now, have new radars. Since we haven’t seen any J-10S with grey domes I think the assumption is safe.

Hm? I hope I don't do him any injustice, but I know Cute Orca as someone who is certainly extremely well informed, but just as happy to have fun teasing OSINT people like me! I am therefore inclined to accept this statement as a theory, but my gut feeling tells me that it has not been confirmed “yet”.

I’m not even sure that they follow the grey redome rule for J-10A/S. The newer J-10S all have AESA but the dome color is still black.

I wonder if something similar is happening with the older J-11B. Radome stays the same but radar has been upgraded. You can’t really tell unless you open them up.
This is a J-10S photo by Canada last year during the ECS incident. Is it the newer J-10S? If it is upgraded to AESA why the radar is not slanted as J-10B? I remember that the slant is for a technical necessity for any ESA type so it should serve as a marker. Also there is a pitot tube.

If the newer J-10S is a very recent variant, can you post a photo of it?

Why does a ESA need to be slanted? F-16V’s radome is neither slanted nor lacks pitot tube.

The J-10 isn't the smallest out there of the single engine middleweight fighters. It sure is a bit chubbier than the F-16. This should translate in longer range and/ or loitering time.

The same approach was chosen for the Z-10 apparently
