J-10 Thread IV

Hmm ... did anyone notice that all so far identified "J-10C" lack the typical MAWS sensors on the vertical tail root !?

What are the new black rectangles in the middle of the avionics bar at the top of the verticle tail of the J10C?

I assumed that they were next gen optical sensors that could perform the function of MAWS, but provide better sensitivity as they are further from engine exhaust so should get better heat contrast.

I do not think those rectangles are any sort of optical sensor aperture, they seem to be antennae of some kind instead...

For some reason it appears they've forgone an aft looking MAWS on this batch of J-10s.

Excellent mash up summary Deino!

That main picture especially shows I was wrong in thinking the black thing in the middle of the avionics bar on the vertical tail is an optics sensor as the shadow cast clearly indicate it to be a bladed protrusion as you indicated.

That means these J10Cs are indeed missing MAWS. A strange omission. Maybe they are waiting on next gen MAWS to be made ready that they could retrofit later? If they have all the internal wiring already in place, it should be a fairly simple thing to swop out those panels in the tail sting for ones with MAWS attached.

Interesting about the large arrays on the leading edges of the wings, L-band radar maybe?

Indeed, but why then leaving also the attachments ?
