I don’t think they lack engines. They simply pulled a tarp over them to protect against the weather.
... Ok.
My point is that scramble's reasoning about WS-10 powered J-10Cs don't really make sense to me.

Do they have engines installed? Hard to see, but at least one j-20 have them clearly installed (#6).
Maybe just waiting for brigade to get enough trained pilots ? Covid could have slowed training somewhat ? Why parking them elsewhere if they will not get used...
Why would they produce just airframe without engines? Clearly, they aren't waiting for foreign ones. So entire batches of domestic engines must have not passed the factory floor.
Seems like there was a production hiccup in the engine side. Color me disappointed. Let's just think that they found a faulty component with certain batches of engines and decided to scrap equipping them.
Could it be that production of the WS-10 is still limited and because of J-15 production for Shandong or J-16 using those engines they temporarily stopped J-10 production?
I was talking to park them at their destination bases... but nice to see so many parked waiting to get dispatched.Usually when they park them outside the factory like that it means that they produced a lot more inside and have no where to put them.
What is the current normal production rate?27 J-10's parked outside, isn't that worth more than 6 months of normal j-10 production?
I think this is the most likely explanation. Probably some re-equipping or unit raising got delayed and there is just no operational need for these airframes just now.Maybe just waiting for brigade to get enough trained pilots ? Covid could have slowed training somewhat ? Why parking them elsewhere if they will not get used...
