J-10 Thread IV

If you look at these details ... I would say it's more likely a C than a B:

I think the MAWS doesn't tell us anything because the tail sting was modified to have a step in it, which meant the MAWS had to be removed.

The only point of contention is the vertical stabiliser's antenna. I think that antenna is an upgrade that can be retrofitted to old J-10s, like with these J-10A/S, some of which have the extra antenna while others don't.

My conclusion is this: we've seen J-10A and J-10S with the extra antenna, so it's likely J-10Bs can be retrofitted with one too. However, we have not seen anything other than J-10Cs with the second spinal antenna. Since the TVC testbed doesn't have the second spinal antenna, it's likely not a J-10C, which means it can only be a J-10B.

Also, it has the front nose pitot tubes like the J-10B 103X prototypes, which leads me to think CAC modified one of them to act as the TVC testbed.

Here is a bigger copy of the cover I took from fyjs, see the green underlined texts. The first line misses 20, the second line misses half of 矢(vector), the third line misses 动机 (engine).

The full texts would be "December 25th, 2017, an enhanced (improved) Taihang with TVC was mounted on J10B prototype 1034 which conducted......"

P.S. although I am aware of the difference between the B and C variants in this forum, I am not aware of C being used as a type/variant within Chinese circle. So the author of this article is not making a mistake as far as the Chinese concerns.

P.S. again, the author of this article is identified by other member in fyjs as "Yankee". I don't know if that would make the claim of J10B more reliable.

Jobjed you remind me of Franco-Russe ? That isn’t you by any chance ?

Lol, I wish. Franco's knowledge and understanding of the PLA's organisation is unmatched. To this day, I'm still trying to piece together just a part of what he was able to decipher before he disappeared. I think he got recruited by an intelligence agency.

If it is indeed #1034 so it would be this one:

Pics look really good! I remembered they say the internal insulation material should be white (some sort of ceramic material)?
