What's the point of Type-222? Pretty sure a keen-eyed pilot could see as far as 10km.

You sure it's not the other way around? I'd think that given their similar level of avionics but with the Flanker's greater size and larger radar that in BVR, the J-10A could at best be equal but in WVR, J-10A may be superior due to the smaller size and nimble delta canard design.
Even back in Soviet Union, Su-27 and Mig-29 formations training against each other could finf thrir opponent +/- simultaneously.
Su-27 airframes` inherent signature is that big, yes.

I think the Russians offered J-11/11A N001VEP+Pero upgrade but PLAAF instead got Belorussian help and got R-77 compatibility with existing N001. That probably saved them a lot of money. Remember The original J-11 deal was for locally built Su-27SK which never had R-77 compatibility.

I don't see any future upgrade for the J-11/11A. Even worse are the older Su-27SK.

when do you think that China would retire those planes (J-11A and SU-27SK)? ... and how many are there in PLAAF inventory ?

I know J-11A is more than sufficient to handle most Asian countries AF ... but not USN

Fighters aren't about individual knightly combat, but about being able to perform tasks. Fighting USN also includes, for example, keeping pesky Orions and Poseidons away from home waters, and other second line tasks.

Also, J-11A is still more or less competitive against many mainline USN and USMC fighters, say, good old F/A-18Cs.
Certainly more so than lots of older Chinese fighters.

Some of the Su-27SK if not most may have already been retired or parts cannibalized. The Su-27UBK, J-11/11A are R-77 compatible. J-11 have also got UV MAWS upgrade. There is still life in the J-11. Su-30MKK and MK2 still have plenty of life in them especially air-to-ground missions.

But the PLAAF flanker fleet (with the exception of the J-16 and Su-35) is falling behind the rest in the region.
