you should take a look at this clip on the section on J-10

It's an interview with vice commander of the PLAAF (this could be the wrong translation)
it starts at around 31:10 minutes and lasts for more than a minute (this could be erroneous, since I think the time tracker is a little messed up)
it says that the avionics is about the same as F-16
it says it has really good flight performance
it can take off in 350 meters
it has 11 hard points
and payload of 6 tonnes.

he also talked about 4th generation fighter development, saying that it will have its first flight soon and probably has 8 to 10 years before achieving IOC. I think it will probably be equipped in a regiment before then, because even now KJ-200 still isn't considered to have achieve IOC (at least that was one of the news after the national parade).

I'm surprised he was actually allowed to mention the 4th generation project. I wonder if its announcement will be a surprise, like the heavy transport?

Wow, first flight soon? From such an official source? Looks like they are taking transparency seriously :p Or playing up to the fan boys. But also, first flight soon would mean the engine is ready, or a substitute is used.

heard from another source that they are using ws10a for now and changing over to a better engine once it is available (ws15 or something like that)

If they're really using WS-10A engines at first, how degrading will the performance be for a 5th generation aircraft instead of using a 5th generation engine? Will it just be that supercruise will not be able to be achieved?

ws10a is only used at the initial testing stage... supercruise and all that stuff can be tested later when new engine is installed

Above link to the official xinhua news shows the openness of the still display of J-10 for foreign AF officers (taking pictures of details...), another indication that China is trying to promote the exporting of this fighter?

Question:IOC (on wikipedia) calls it "is the state achieved when a capability is available in its minimum usefully deployable form", so does that mean the KJ-200 isn't deployable... minimally? Cause they have two or three of them, and they were shown at the parade (and most if not all of the weapons shown were all known of for a good while, and probably all operational to an extent), so is this a difference in Western IOC and PLA IOC?

Or is it really that the KJ-200 isn't minimally operational?

Probably. If the J-10B is almost ready then China should have no qualms selling it's now second rate J-10. (Though, I suppose if it counts as second rate it's not by too much).
