Hmm ... and as far as I know these were the first pictures of the painted no. 1 prototype !

Deino
you mean the photo I attached?
The person that posted this in August said that this is the picture of prototype 03 that just had its first flight at that time.

Apparent stats that came out as J-10 is part of the PLAAF 60th anniversary air show. I'm not sure that this is correct, but here it goes.
Length 16.43 m
Wingspan 9.75 m
Takeoff weight 12.4 tonne
Maximum speed Mach 2.0
Service Ceiling 18000 m
Takeoff distance 350-650 m

For the takeoff weight, it's really hard to say what the takeoff weight there represents, since the one on J-7 listed is the maximum takeoff. As for the rest, the maximum speed, ceiling and takeoff distance all seem to be under represented.

Maybe not. Looking across the board of delta canard designs, most have a top speed of about Mach 2, which isn't too surprising. The delta canard design has good transonic performance, but at the penalty of top speed due to having higher aerodynamic drag. That and I'm not completely sure, but the J-10 may have a higher angle wing sweep than the other delta canard designs.

I find the takeoff weight hard to corroborate partially because wiki is the only site I can find with a thorough set of numbers, and we all know how reliable wikipedia is. That and of course, the PLA has never released anything on the J-10 before. However, wiki seems to indicate that the loaded weight is about 18 tons, and its empty weight is about 10 tons. That could either mean the J-10 is a bit heavier than we thought it was, or it could mean that it is MUCH lighter.

actually i find both the ceiling figure and the takeoff figure quite good, there arent many planes in the same class surpassing those figures. 350 meters would be a light load, 650 meters a heavy one, thats very comparable to the likes of eurocanards, f15, su27, etc. Same goes for 18.000 meter ceiling, thats quite a bit. Combat ceiling is always gonna be less, anyway, and it doesnt scale linearly with the max ceiling.

Mach 2 speed is perhaps a tad underperforming, but then again, there arent many one engined designes going faster. Plus, it goes in line with the decision to use a DS inlet in j10b, which, as we are often told, has a practical usage limit at around mach 2.

Takeoff weight is also very comparable to f16C models, and higher than, say, Gripen.

Quoted length is, i believe, with the nose probe, right?

Wasn't there something about the J10 setting the speed record for the PLAAF? M2 sounds a tad low to manage that.
