-S is abbreviation for "Shuang1" which translates to "Twin", the j-10S is the twin seater and the -10AS, if it is distinct from the -10S, is also a twin seater. The -B, if that is the real designation, is the next variant with the DSI, purported ESA radar, and other improvements.

hello

what's the diference between the J-10B and the J-10S/AS ????

J-10S is the 2-seat version of the original J-10

J-10A is a minor upgrade from the original J-10 (Probably replaced the Mechanically Scanning RADAR with a PESA RADAR). So its 2-seater would probably be J-10AS. Not sure whether a J-10AS actually exists though. Only recently we found out that there is a variant known as J-10A.

J-10B is a major upgrade (actually looks like a redesign). Its 2-seater would be J-10BS

Same with the J-11B. The 2-seater is called J-11BS

do we know it has pesa? how strong is that assumption?

we have no real evidence when it comes to the radar of J-10A. I don't even know if such a designation really exists. CAC just continually improved the avionics of J-10 through each new block they produced.

Anyhow, I've attached a photo of J-10B in here.

My apologies for not being clear.....Its a speculation on my part.....

We for sometime believed that the J-10 had the Type 1473 (KLJ-3?) mechanically scanned RADAR. Then there was a TV interview with a PLAAF rep, were it was stated the J-10 is having an 'ESA'. Short while later we found out about a version known as

. So I am wondering whether the J-10A is an upgraded J-10 with a PESA.

Again.....just me wondering.....

speaking of AESA, south korean is currently negotiatin with the US to retrofit 2 squadron F-16 (150 plus) with SABER AESA radar.
the big problem was technology transfer.US refusal to transfer (or assembly)the key technology to south korea.

...Anyhow, I've attached a photo of J-10B in here.

If this picture is realy from the 28. October, then it must be another prototype / preserial .... and if I'm not wrong, the long nose-probe/sensor-pitor is missing !??
