I think for all here with at least a bit of common sense it is clear since years, that the Lavi "influenced" the J-10's design and as such I do not want to overrate this image - esp. as proof for being a Lavi-clone, which is simply wrong – but however it is the first clear image that proofs that there were close contacts between CAC and IAI and that they even laid hands on the Lavi !

Quite interesting, it was taken somewhere in the 1980s some say even before the Lavi’s maiden flight in December 1986 ...

I too think that there were design inputs from Lavi. The assertion that J-10 is a simple clone of the Lavi design is ridiculous since they aren't designed for the same roles. Lavi is designed as a multi-role fighter with good air-to-air and ground-attack capabilities. As a result its supersonic performance is compromised to a certain extent (evident from the intake design). J-10 is designed as an airsuperiority/interceptor fighter and supersonic capabilities are emphasized (once again evident from intake design).

As much as I know, the Israelis did help in terms of teaching and guiding us on "how to design" rather than to actually design it for us. Another important thing is that, Israel provided an opportunity for Chinese designers to get a close look and feel of what then was state-of-art aircraft technologies, e.g. fly by wire technologies.

Bear in mind that during those days, many of the Chinese designers have never heard of fly by wire let alone to design such a system on a plane with canards. During the 80s even the J8 was not complete.

I find calling the FC-K-1 a trainer with grandeur is somewhat condescending. The performence of the FC-K-1 is somewhat similar to the JF-17 Thunder.

Well, the JF-17 was not selected by the PLAAF. I bet some people would also call the JF-17 a Mig-21 with delusions of grandeur, or perhaps also just a trainer with delusions of grandeur ;)

Sorry guys, but just to recap - what are the major differences between the J-10B v J-10C that warrant the renaming of the aircraft into different serial production versions as opposed to incremental 'block' upgrades adding greater AG muntions interoperability, EW / avionic combat systems?

Respectfully, the changes "seem" relatively modest? Any clues?
