Makes sense to me as they want to replace the Russian engines with domestic ones in the future. I think we can say for sure that it will happen. However when that will happen is another question.

Thanks for posting !!! ... it shows at least that production is still going on. Now all we need is an image of an operational bird + serial !

Chinese delegate visited a Lavi prototype.

Simply amazing that image (I just found it the same minute but You were a bit faster ! ;)) ... including especially important the J-10's chief designer Song Wencong (fourth from right side).

Someone said the photo was taken before the maiden flight of Lavi.

While allowing General Dynamics helping Taiwan AIDC to design F-CK-1, Uncle Sam also permitted IAI helping CAC to build up modern fighter design process.

If that's true then it will be a decision that the Americans now live to regret. Then it seems that the J-10 is derived and influenced by the Lavi after all.

I think for all here with at least a bit of common sense it is clear since years, that the Lavi "influenced" the J-10's design and as such I do not want to overrate this image - esp. as proof for being a Lavi-clone, which is simply wrong – but however it is the first clear image that proofs that there were close contacts between CAC and IAI and that they even laid hands on the Lavi !

Quite interesting, it was taken somewhere in the 1980s some say even before the Lavi’s maiden flight in December 1986 ...
