The conversion of 12 Air Division 36 Regt from J-7B to J-10A has been known for quite some time and was discussed in posts # 3583-3595.

That is where plawolf reported the interesting observation that 36 Regt was relocated to Wendeng when Jinan was abandoned in 2010. The regiment was awaiting the completion of the new airfield at Qihe where it started the conversion late 2012.

The discussion sprang from the wonderful list provided by A. Man in post # 3582, which I think is in almost all respects correct.

The list says that the next regiment to convert to J-10A will be the South Sea Fleet’s 9 Aviation Division 25 Regt Lingshui. That will account for the rest (16) of the 40 Lot 07 J-10A’s.

The conversion of 25 Regt has been mentioned by another source, so I suppose it must be correct, even though it seems surprising that a J-8BH/DH regiment will switch to J-10A. I would have expected the last naval J-7 regiment, 8 Aviation Division 24 Regt Jialai, to be the one to convert.

What comes after that is everybody’s guess. Will J-10B production start after the completion of J-10A Lot 07, or will there be a further J-10A lot?

so because we discussed it earlier, that means I can't say that scramble has listed it in their orbat without getting rebuked by you?

btw, that list said the PLANAF said the 9th division will be getting a regiment in 2010-2012. Do you believe that actually happened?

There are always list like that people put together based on rumours on Chinese forums. They are more or less correct, but they are not official until we actually see it showing up.

Just putting in a reference to the fuller earlier discussion of the new 12 Division J-10A regiment.

As I suggested, I am somewhat sceptical about the conversion of 25 Regiment at Lingshui. To complicate matters, there is good information that there will be a J-15 regiment at Lingshui at some time. Anyway, we should know before the end of the year.

2 years ago a picture appear in the web showing J-10B ESR.there were aurgument whether is PESA or AESA.wikipedia claim it was AESA.looking at the picture. notice there are no wave guide in the LRU.it could be AESA after all.
but IFF dipole antenna mounted in antenna plate was odd..the 4 horizontal antenna for APX-135 IFF interrogator for F-16 was mounted in front of cockpit.during the 2010 zhuhai airshow a brochure appear in the exhibit showing new IFF interrogator with 2 blade antenna mounted in front of J-10 or J-11.

according to back issue of MILTECH, AESA radar translate in 70% extra range, assume the mechanical radar for J-10A is 120~130km range, then max. detection range for J-10B "s radar could be 200KM~220km range.

Interestingly, the "blue team", represented by the J-10s from the Chengdu military district, was playing the "Chinese side" this time. The red team of J-11Bs had superior electronic warfare capabilities and tried to attack the defending J-10s and SAMs. The blue team fooled them into attacking false targets, which was a costly mistake for the red team since they lost something like 6-7 fighters. One of them locked onto a J-10 towards the end of the exercise but was shot down by a SAM.

Pretty intense exercise that took place in 2012.
