The plane featured in the picture is without a doubt a mockup. However I think the plane is probably not made from foam and plastic but reinforced concrete. The fractures on the plane are consistent with concrete fractures and you can see steel bars sticking out of the plane. I really doubt that this "mock up" ever flew and I think that it was probably damaged during transportation.

Come on guys ... this is clearly a REAL aircraft ... to be honerst, what remains of it and not a mock-up.

Why then would the serial number have been psed for example ??

There has been no news from PLAAF regarding the incident. I don't think I'll buy the crash story until the following questions are answered:

1) Why isn't the plane's engine available in the photos?
2) The plane crashed in a rice paddy so I would expect a crater or even some skid marks! Neither are visible on the photo.
3) How is it possible for the crashed plane to have no leaks (fuel, lubrication, etc.)?
4) Many peasants were available at the crash site but no major Chinese News Network reported the incident.

I really don't think that the plane feature is a J-10, even if it were a real plane. I think we would've heard more about this had this been an actual J-10 crash.

I believed it happened sometimes in 2007. It was reported in the news, but we didn't get photos until now.

The Chinese government still claims a zero-crash record for the J-10. They denied rumors of the crash during the plane's experimental phase. Although it is possible that the government covered up J-10 crashes I really don't think they'll let the pictures leek out like that.

That's not true ...

Here in March 2009 a J-10 fighter had an engine failure during a training flight and fortunately the pilot Li Feng made a successful forced landing and saved his fighter.

Maybe You are right, with official confirmed total-losses but reportedly (via Huitong's site) #61 crashed in July 2005 due to engine failure.

I am not saying that I can prove that J-10 has never crashed before. I just find the J-10 crash photos very suspicious.

I've found a thread on the tiexue website discussing the validity of the photographs. Does anyone want to help me translate it?

According to the link you posted, the crashed J-10 was made of concrete and wood, and of course never fly. The photo was PSed because the J-10 vs background in some photo doesn't match each other.
