the first prototype AESA for rafale was made in 2002,but it was until 2012 that RBE-2 will officially equip the french air force.PLAAF may have to wait longer, probably around 2015~2017 for there own AESA.
you gotta stop repeating everything from Kanwa or wforum, not the greatest sources around.
But I have some doubts in their ability to turn out a competitive AESA radar in about 2 yrs time or less. All the institutions you have quoted do NOT CURRENTLY make an AESA radar for fighter jets. What are the chances they will be able to manufacture it, master the technology and get it right first time?
they are further ahead than you think. They've had AESA radar programs for several years now. I think it will be ready for J-10B's entrance into service but we will see. Of course, they are also getting one for J-11B.

is J-11B getting the same AESA as J-10B or a bigger one?

If the largest, most powerful AESA is fitted into a J-11B nose, how effective would it be against stealth targets?

Or do you have any data or news about the Chinese AESA? self dening or no bad news is good news?
Even the US with far superiority in technology encounter tremendous problem trying to mass produce T/R MMIC,same with europe and japan.
one solution is to purchase T/R MMIC or entire AESA radar from russia.

You really can't compare dates since French government didn't put as much importance as Chinese could do on their own AESA Radar program, period.

How to you quantify the term "importance" ? Is it because the French are not placing as much R&D cost in that particular project, or was budjet often being divert off to other project.

As to the Chinese, the same question as above. Did the Chinese put more money, brain, resources into their AESA radar project as compared to the French.

And finally we have to look into each nation's industrial base, the French might (I emphasis on 'might') have a stronger base as compare to the chinese (sorry, this is just a presumption) so they might not need that much R&D effort to achieve the AESA.

Of course I am not dismissing your claim that the Chinese might come up with the radar earlier, but I am not entirely agreeing with your claim that the French are not placing as much importance to their AESA radar program as the Chinese unless you could help us quantify your claims.

There is an Iraqi man who works with me. He thought the United States is the "God." He would believe anything that Western news said about China. After he went to China for 4 weeks, he said to me: "Oh, God. Is this the China that we knew? It, in many fields, makes the United States to look like a Third World country.

Since China is putting more money on R & D, you will see many surprises in the near future.

People in China are saying: 只有想不到,没有做不到!

By the way, don't count a US dollar equals 6.82 Chinese yuan. Chinses economy is much bigger than what you believed.

The government was really not so eager to integrate an AESA antenna onto the RBE-2 radar, improving export potential of the aircraft as been the major argument to fund such developpement as French Air Force did really put emphasis on onboard Radar for the Rafale, as it was only a part of the whole sensor suit.

To date, government put 90 M€ to fund the developpement of the radar antenna to be fielded by 2012. But I can assume that they had already made some research on AESA antenna since the SPECTRA EW suit as already such antennas but for jamming purposes...

I think that Chinese could come up with such a system by the same frame of time than the Frenches as AESA could be more needed for their aircrafts (Chinese territory is vast enough to justify such spending on AESA).

My 2 cents.

just look at their AWACS programs and MFR programs, that basically shows that they are capable of producing T/R modules and AESA radar. As released in the recent 60th anniversary parade, they have lowered the cost of mass producing the radar set for AWACS. Your and Kanwa's beloved Russia have not shown any capability in being able to mass produce the T/R modules for AESA radar.

And we've heard 607 institute working on AESA radar for a long time now, including finishing development in 2008 (although it might be embellished). On top of that, 14th and 38th should be much further ahead than 607, but they have not disclosed their program status, because PLAAF's radar programs are confidential.
