11 years and still a crumbling mess. They truly deserve it. Just from the Darwinian aspect alone, they are not qualified to continue as a state at their current form. They have been given lots of time, help, and still haven't be able to do anything. In fact they have somehow managed to get weaker
Only Assad and the SAA can answer this question. Decades of generous military assistance from Russia, and Iran. But somehow in 2024, they just cannot put together a decent garrison force to fight terrorists riding on pickup trucks with practically zero air support. They look almost like the ex-Afghan government in 2021, and the South Vietnamese regime in 1975.

There is no betrayal. They are just not fit to lead the country. That's it
Perhaps Assad is not fit to rule over Syria. But then who else is there to replace him? If Russia and Iran abandons him to the terrorists, then Syria would collapse into another medieval failed state like Libya. As much as the SAA and Assad suck at keeping Syria together, there are no available alternatives to preserve Syria as a nation. As for the overall global resistance, losing Syria is a significant setback.

That's not entirely accurate. UK flies daily sorties into Syria from Cyprus via Turkey, Eurofighters with tankers. USAF flies daily sorties into Syria from the south and east via Jordan and Iraq (and KSA + Qatar), tankers, recon, choppers + ???. Turkey is always operating assets from the north, openly drones + ???. Israeli AF is regularly conducting missions inside Syria from the west. They got Syria totally engulfed.

If the secular Assad falls, he'll be replaced very likely by religious extremists, with extensive discohesion and sectarian violence, just like what resulted in Iraq when the secular Saddam was ousted.

Here's some pictures of White Helmet Rami Dandel and his brother Alaa Dandel. Rami Dandel was one of the guides to CNN visit to jihadis a few years ago, but supported ISIS.

Not even hiding it anymore. Out in plain sight who is backing who. They learned from Gaza: do whatever you want, nobody can stop you.

The problem with Syria and Lebanon and Iraq is that the borders are drawn in such a way that it leads to conflict. It would be better for the Sunnis in the Syrian and Iraqi desert to have their own state while the alawite coast is much more like Lebanon. And the Kurds from various countries could just be combined. Real nation states are much more stable than these driverse mixtures of people who hate each other. North Korea is 99% Korean. It's not comparable

There's been an effort from Shia countries to change the demographics of Syria. The areas now rebelling are mostly Sunni and they will try to kill all the Shias. That's exactly what happened in Mosul with islamic state and what the Iraqi Shia militias were made to fight. Especially the Iraqi version of Hezbollah, the nujaba movement will move in to Syria now

The Sunnis in Syria have to win in this rebellion now because I can't see them staying the majority if this offensive doesn't win the civil war

I don't think you can see everything as black and white, it makes no sense holding position when out numbered, force preservation is more important than making a stand, enemy force destruction is more important than land occupation. Defence in depth is one of the oldest Russian tactics, this is literally what Russia does every time including recently at Kursk, SAA didn't surender anyone, they were able to fully withdraw with minimal loses, this is crucial, especially with Russian air being present on day one.

Both Ukraine and Syria were Hilary/Democrat projects and it makes sense that they'd give it one last go now that Ukraine is falling apart, they're reactivating ISIS from a position of desperation, not a position of advantage. There is a significant oppertunity here to fix the problem in totality and get Syria to a much better place than the frozen war of the last 10 years, and in order to do so the first and most important part is preserving Syrian forces.

I don't want to jump to conclusions but it might very well be over for Assad and his loyalists. His 'army' is being routed as we speak while he and his family are in Russia and other places abroad.

What is going to happen next? Syria carved up into 3 parts? Sunnistan, Alawistan and Kurdistan? Although the last one will be under severe pressure from Turkiye.

Edit: As they are starting the withdrawal from Homs (forget about Hama, that one is done), the loyal west-coast can be blockaded easily while the remnants can go to Damascus? Will they reorganize in Damascus?

There's a reason bad dictatorships (not benevolent ones) especially centered around one person/individual and his family don't last when faced with an uprising/mass protests or real internal challenges. This was bound to happen at one point in time. Though even now its not certain that his regime will fall yet. The smart thing to do would have been to announce he will be stepping down until elections are organised anf he could have apoointed a close ally to run for president in a general election when the uprising against him started. That would have avoided the country descending into this bloody messy civil war.
I also blame the Syrian army for not intervening and negotiating a peaceful transition of power for Assad by forcing him to relinquish power and appoint a transitional government while awaiting a general free and fair election . The army shoulf havr intervened earlier to remove him and gove him a forceful way out like in Egypt(with Mubarak) and even more recently Bengladesh (with Hassina) but most of the army leadership messed up by instead siding with him and following his orders to intervene against the people/protesters instead. This is what led to this situation where part of the army split to join the protesters and the rest is history

The rebels are Israel/US pawns, not an independent entity.

I always suspected that the Ukraine issue was orchestrated to divert Russian attention and resources away from the middleast so that these Israeli pawns can make their move.

Intensification of war in Syria may also draw a larger US/UK presence into the country which Israel would love because it could also slip directly into Gaza and Hezbollah's Lebanon.

This is the blueprint of Greater Israel.

Makes one wonder if the recent F-35 deal with Turkey was carrot dangling.

Haven't you seen the resistance' sniper footage in Gaza? 90% of them use the Chinese M-99 anti-material rifle.
Chinese ATGM were also seen in Gaza.

I wonder what the Kurds are upto. They are usually well aligned with Israel and keep good ties.
Everything that happens in the middle east and Muslim world is not always about Israel. Jeez....some people should start takung responsibilities for their incompetence for once. Seriously, this is getting ridiculous . If this mentality in.the region then its no wonder the middle east will remain the way it is for a long time to come. Lol

Nice try buddy. Hasbara failed again. Israel has already accepted their role in arming Syrian rebels and there is video evidence along with government documents on this very thread of US training extremists in Syria.

______

This is funny. The two guys US sent to Lebanon to oversee the ceasefire are: 1) an Israel-born, former IDF, aid to Biden, Amos Hochstein, and; 2) an American general who was involved in the occupation of both Iraq and Syria (leading a brigade in the latter).

Well that was quick. Many media are reporting it.
