Is it possible that the Iranians have negotiated some sort of tech transfer and want to eventually build those planes themselves? The first kits will be assembled by the Russians this could be for training the Iranian engineers. (complete speculation on my part)

I was thinking the exact same thing. Isn't that how it was done when the Russians transferred Sukhoi jets tech to the Chinese?

Not really. Even a failed attack is reasonable grounds to retaliate. Irani leaders were saying earlier that despite the attack being weak, it did kill a few people for which they WILL retaliate.

It will likely be a big strike against Israeli military infrastructure that will hamper the war efforts in Gaza and south Lebanon. Another thing I want to highlight is that the invasion of South Lebanon is becoming a bigger debacle than 2006. Israel is taking serious losses. 12 killed on Friday and 7 more yesterday. The wounded in action number is horrific. They keep falling into these Hezbollah ambushes, come under rocket and atgm fire. Everyone knew this was going to happen but nothing beats Israeli arrogance and stupidity. They say they are going to end the land war in 2-3 weeks. I don’t know how they’ll explain to the people after they withdraw that they still can’t go to the north.

I am extremely skeptical of these withdrawl. Does not seem right. Too rational of a decision. Likely a pause before bigger commitment. That would be their style. I am guessing deployment of western group troops.

Iran also has AAA placements, chances are the losses came from one of those on the border. It wouldn't be visible on satellite.

That is often done by Russia. Fighter airplanes being transported disassembled and assembled on site.

In some cases it is because flying to the destination with the aircraft itself is difficult. In other cases they might want to prevent third parties from knowing when, and how many aircraft they delivered. If they flew them direct to Iran radars in Azerbaijan or Turkey could detect the airplane movements.

The other option is like you guys said and this is part of a program where they are training Iranians to assemble the aircraft by themselves.
That would indicate a large purchase by Iran and could involve deeper technology transfer like was done with China and India.

Apparently there is a whole genre of videos of Israeli soldiers talking about all sorts of war crimes in their eulogies for their buddies as if they are just happy anecdotes

Not at all. Their national sovereignty was violated first of all. It would be weird they struck Israel when the Iranian consulate in Syria was bombed but not when Iranian soil is violated. Second of all they lost 5 soldiers in the process so they have to avenge them. It would be strange for Iran to strike Israel over Haniyeh’s assassination who isn’t Iranian or Shia but not 5 Iranian soldiers. If they do nothing this sets a new precedent for Israel to do air strikes against Iranian soil. Based on all of that Iran will retaliate. And likely will be worse than the October 1st attack and likely will lead to IOF casualties to avenge them 5 soldiers.
