ISIS/ISIL conflict in Syria/Iraq (No OpEd, No Politics)

When asked about Syria, Xi's best play is to say, "in our context, this is a classic, if bit dated, negotiating technique", a sort of backhanded compliment just as Trump's been playing the carrots and stick BS. It does not overtly insult Herr Drumpf, nor does it show intimidation by President Trump.

You can't call the Syrian government a terrorist group; a terrorist government, perhaps, but that's a huge club, including possibly the United States from CIA activities.

Big escalation. But we need more information; how many government troops dead, what equipment was destroyed, how many aircraft disabled etc...

We need to wait and see if this will affect the SAA's performance on the ground.

The chemical attack now definitely smells even more fishy. Putting aside the illogical reasons why Assad would launch it, it provided a perfect excuse for Trump to back his go-it-alone NK threat with some action. Coincidence? I think not!

Trump was very fast to jump on this and to react - something deeper in play perhaps?

It does occur to me that the biggest casualties may be Trumps opponents at home in Politics and the Media. It will be hard for the "Putin's Puppet" jibe to stick after this!

Let's hope no Russian advisors or Russian airforce personnel were killed in this attack.

My guess is that the US was pretty confident that there weren't any at the base, which is why it launched the attack there and at that time. Washington may have even warned the Kremlin to get any personnel out.

You can't call the Syrian government a terrorist group;.
No. I am Not. I meant recognized terror groups,
Let's review
The Self proclaimed Caliphate are terrorists
AQ had infected the FSA like cancer until it more or less broke up resulting Tahrir al-Sham and they are Terrorists.
the Syrians have been backed by Hezbollah through Iran, Hezbollah are an internationally recognized terrorist group. Remember a few months back a Russian Soldier was spotted sporting a Hezbollah emblem
The Kurdish forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces fighting in syria have strong ties to the YPG is considered terrorists by Turkey. Remember a US operator was spotted wearing a YPG emblem.
Syrian opposition has ties to a number of groups including the Muslim Brotherhood and Hizb ut-Tahrir, Both Islamist supremacy groups and Muslim Brotherhood is a Recognized terror group in a number of nations.Hizb ut-Tahrir is considered a terror group by Turkey

So any party in the Syrian war can from anyones perspective be backed or backing a terror group.

Hezbollah are an internationally recognized terrorist group.
Hezbollah was founded to drive the Israeli occupation forces out of Lebanon and after about 15 year they succeeded in 2000. They thwarted a new Israeli invasion in 2006. They now help Syria fight foreign sponsored terrorists. No wonder that those sponsors call Hezbollah a terrorist organization.
