OMG that is horrible to see the beheaded of a child.:( Is this picture authentic and not PS? The reason I ask is because where the child lay dead and headless on the floor there is no pool of blood around it? As a matter of fact it's pretty spot less. I'm not questioning you or the article, I'm just questioning the picture. I'm not surprise their are some persecutions to Christians and other groups that ISIS deem as an enemy to their beliefs.

I think it's real because it was taken a few hours after the actual event but regardless if the picture itself is PS it doesn't matter because there have been multiple CONFIRMED reports that ISIS does torture and behead people including women and children.

The way I see it....

and this is coming from someone who hates violence but sometimes that is your only option.

Your wish has been granted. President Obama says there is no timetable for attacks against ISIS in Iraq. He says it could go on for months but also says there will be no ground troops going back in to Iraq. Victory will ultimately depend on the Iraqi's.

CAS assets are suitable for fighting ISIS especially in the open environment of northern Iraq. A couple squadrons of A-10s, AH64s and AC-130s should do the trick couple with a few Growlers to jam ground communications.

I remember seeing that pic or something very similar in news about Syrian 'freedom fighters'. Maybe they just recycled the pic? I do believe that ISIS are committing crimes against humanity however.

Highly unlikely. A-10 and AH-64 have relatively short range. They need to be deployed close to battlefield, and in this case that would probably mean US would have to put boots on the ground again in Iraq (to secure air bases and handle logistic) . There is very little chance Obama would want to do that.

As for AC-130, it is possible but risky. ISIS poses some fairly advanced MANPADs , and AC-130 is big and slow target .

The latest version of the AC130 might not be as much of a risk. It uses standoff range systems meaning it can stay farther off station.
A10's range can be extended with a tanker in orbit. that would mean basing just out of country in a nation friendly to the US with a Air base. There was a report back in february of the USAF thinking of using Jordan to host operations in Syria.

It still needs to overfly hostile forces to be effective .

Tanker could refuel A-10, but it could not rearm it . In these kind of operations you need high frequency of sorties and no time to wait for slow A-10 to arrive from airfield hundreds of miles away.

So far the air strikes have been highly targeted and few in number. But the Kurds say they have already been enough to allow to take back 2-3 towns as a result.

The US is capable of deploying F-18s in all varieties, F-15Es, B-1Bs, B-2s, etc. to devastating effect. From Kuwait and Turkey, they could also easily deploy A-10s as needed, well within range to be effective.

How much will actually be done we will have to wait and see.

It is clear that the latest atrocities pushed Obama over the edge and he has decided to us American air power for a significant time frame to help reduce ISIS capability to continue their offensive which s resulting in horrific and bloody genocide in the areas they take control of.
