I read somewhere that they were interested in buying a version of the TU-22 bomber. That bomber is highly capable IMHO. Maybe they are designing one based upon that design. The TU-22 design is something I could see PLAN interested in. It has plenty of range and decent enough payload.
they are, but JH-7A is more replacing Q-5 and backfires would be replacing H-6.

Interesting. So the JH-7A would fill the role as the tactical bomber while the backfire design would be used as a heavier-weight bomber with more range and more payload.

if the M3 is ever acquired, it would serve in the same role as it did in the soviet naval aviation arm, as maritime bombers. Of course there is already a maritime bomber, the H-6, in place. However obsolete it is, its missiles are still quite up to date.

China havent actually got a deal to buy the Backfires from Russian yet, have they?
some reports are that China and Russia are about to reach a deal. But there is probably a big discussion within China about whether to actually get it or not. Actually, Russians are offering both the backfires and bears.

Nice... someday we'll have it

I think I'll take the J-11D back, I kinda forgot the JH-7, so... Lets talk about the Jian-11B

Since theres news of China buying Su-35BM(Kinda), how much of the J-11B will be from the Su-35BM?

Does this mean they will be incorporating Su-35 "technology" into pre-existing J-11 airframes? That would be interesting. Or will they be buying Su-35's outright from Russia. If they are able to buy it, that should open up doors for PLAN to acquire Su-33's for future carrier ops.

Just a thought.

With international relations between China/Russia and the United States, (dont want a political discussion here, just stating reality), why doesnt China seem to show any interest for the Tu-160 Blackjack.

There are approximatelly 30 of these aircraft in service with the Russian Air force and they are highly regarded, powerful aircraft.

The Tu-160 is the worlds most powerful strategic strike aircraft, based on the design of the American B-1 bomber, it is larger, has a significantly increased range and warload.

It would not be too hard for China to purchase the blueprints for this aircraft as well as to bring in all the relevant russian engineers and simply build the things as fast as they can.

Im sure there would be a nice little cash bonus on the side for the Russians, maybe even an offset deal where new Russian Blackjacks where co-produced in Chinese factories and then balanced against the equity built on licence fees for the Chinese aircraft.

Net result is that China gets a large force of strategic buclear/conventional bombers, Russia gets some cash (behind the scenes) as well as a smaller force of the bombers to give it a moderate increase compared to the current numbers.

As well as this the Chinese would also be able to operate major servicing centers on the mainland where both russian and chinese aircraft can get serviced. This would save the cash strapped russians a lot of money and at the same tims give the Chinese immense experience in maintaining large complex airframes to western standards.

Obviously this should follow the signing of either a non-aggression pact or a full blown alliance between the two nations, but that again is a political question.

I think the reason for not buying Blackjacks is simply because they are now obsolete, at least if you are planning on using them against America... The Blackjack was designed by the Soviet Union in the Cold War for high level high speed penetration, releasing a nuclear warhead on American soil. A similiar concept is the cancelled US XB-70 from the 60s... high program costs, and the fact that SAMs simply keep getting better and better, pretty much making the high level attack bomber more money than it's worth...
