The tejas is probably an adequate contemporary to the JF17, the only problem is that they can't make the damn thing in numbers actually needed to replace the MiG21, and they only have a single Mk 1A (supposedly the one at the Dubai air show was fitted with some Mk 1A avionics too) and iirc 40 Mk 1s, when the JF17 Block 3 is literally already in service, does the Mk 1A have an HMD?

Verdict from his side, maybe a compressor stall.
Fuel pumps and fuel distribution system to Teja engine are very old one from Israel since 1985-9. HAL is using old one in Teja. Teja MK1-2 needs better fuel pumps and modern seals. It was fuel and speed issues. Speed was much lower which didn't enable Teja to recover from post stall phase. Pilot tried to save Teja not himself. He could not save both. WCmdr Syal sacrificed himself rather than to face humiliation afterwards. He could have ejected but he preferred not to.

AFA export is concerned, compared to USA Russia( China some extent) there was no way out. Even Europe is struggling for export of fighters. Teja had no export future, USA is only major exporter. That is the reality. Wishes of export R good imaginations.

The use of Tejas was foremost a stepping stone for India military aviation industry but also replacing some derelict aircrafts at the same time.
I agree, but if Tejas was about replacing "derelict aircraft" then why wasn't it used during Op Sindoor? During the previous Indo-Pak clashes of 2019, the IAF did use the MiG-21. Supposedly an inferior fighter jet.

The Indian reluctance to use the Tejas speaks volumes. What good is a jet fighter if it's never used in actual combat?

Obviously, not ready for combat. Their ACMs criticized it multiple times.

Also, early 2000's, the navy asked for a naval variant of Tejas which was later rejected; acquired Mig-29 in mid 2000's.

_______

I'm wondering how the squadron number & size will be replenished. With the retirement of Mig-21, 14 squadrons were retired. Total now is at 29, down from 42. With LCA having troubles, how will IAF go back to 42?
