the muzzle velocity difference given the same propellant charge is totally negligible. At long range the velocity advantage can reversed because spinning rifles projectile can remain stable in flight without drag inducing fins. the only drawback of a rifled gun is spin of the projectile slightly degraded HEAT round performance. but in return one gains significantly higher chance of hitting due to more stable flight.

That's where rifled loses out and why everyone went with smoothbore, modern super high pressure charges wear out barrels in a few hundred shots, a rifled gun can only put out 2/3 of a smoothbore out before it needs to be replaced.

and that was with 80s rounds, people have been upping the pressure more and more since than

An excellent article on the Vikrant aircraft deal.

First I find it insane that India designed and is building a carrier with no firm decision on what plane it's going to be using. Is there any other country in the world that would do something like that?

Rafale-M would be the best option as they've got them for the air force. Apparently the plane doesn't fit the lift and would need to have it's wings removed and reattached each time it was taken onto and off the deck...

F/A 18E/F - American carriers are massive, and American navy pilots are the most well trained in the world. Taking off and landing on a carrier isn't easy, I know the US navy has very frequent drills where each pilot is graded on their landing.

I bet they picked very good pilots to demonstrate those ski lift takeoffs. When it comes to Indians operating them I bet we will see some failed launch belly flops like the F-35B last year.

Mig-29K isn't a likely option right now. The Indians don't seem to be very happy with their performance on their other carrier, and giving the Russian MIC a new multi billion dollar contract is going lead to CAASTA sanctions.

I think there's a strong possibility that India ends up inducing an aircraft carrier with no aircraft.

Only the MiG-29K fits. @tphuang mentioned this in a discussion before when I asked about Rafale.
Super Hornet won't fit.

I think they both want to claim that their aircraft can fit in Vikrant, but the elevator setup is so tight even for mig29k that things would be quite difficult for the unfoldable Rafale. I also don't know how Indian Navy intends to use it's ships. If it's happy with stationing them all on the flight deck and only occasionally move aircraft to the hangar, that might be okay.

Supapowa economic IQ 2000, great savings

They must still be reading through the "Ukraine Winning" western news articles and think tank pieces

Good practice for the PLA then

Just feels good I guess
Indians seem desperate enough to achieve some sort of Military technological parity with China that in their mind taking a short cut measure which is what this latest measure is all about - reduction in pay and pension cost equals money for the various western toys the military want. But such effort shows in my opinion a grotesque neglect and undervalue of their military personnel; they're viewed as burdens, numbers, and nothing else. The amount of money spent on training then re-training after losing the 75% for another "fresh" recruits just as their troops gain all the necessary experience and familiarity in the military they're forced to quit.

The Indians should not be bothering itself with these delusions of Superpower nonsense instead it should have focused on trying to make her economy more competitive and vibrant so that these desperate young Indians would have another avenues to look forwardd to in terms of future employment and opportunities. India should make peace with China, so that it can focus itself in furthering it's economic potential just as China had done decades prior. But Indians have been consuming too much Jai Hind as of late pushed and propagated by their Godi media, politicians, business leaders, academics, the whole elite that it will be unlikely if not virtually impossible for them to stop digging their own unnecessary difficulty.

I have yet to read or be exposed to any leading and crucial area in science, math, technology, IOT, telecommunications, education, where India leads over China let alone the world; or at least lead in something significant where China can at least be able to learn from. Please correct me wrong on this one if am mistaken with my information.
