They added canards. What about it?
They have to place the actuators for the Canards somewhere. This way, they won't be changing the internals of the aircraft vastly from the Mark 1.

Have they ploughed up new problems as they tried to bury the old problems (regarding low internal space)?

I'm well aware of this but it does not look like an aerodynamically "clean" solution.

Those canard positions are quite a lot closer to the centre of gravity and it's quite a "short" aircraft as it is but it's a worthy add on to overcome the previous leading edge issues where they designed it with two sweep angles. The canards will be a definite improvement not just for more lift. I don't think it really matters how close coupled it is when it comes to turning performance since they have really no more realestate to put those canards.

Anyway looks like the Indian guys for all their big talk in the last few decades are only able to copy 1970s designs for future application. So far all of them are models only and probably a decade away from service at best. AMCA is a pipedream. 10 years of laughing at others who have actually developed a F-35/F-22 copy into a flyable design at least and only to make a model of a copy of a copy of a copy. Around 2040 to 2050 when the AMCA reaches service if it ever does, the Indians would be where China was (assuming they have everything else matured) back in the 2000s.
