I'm more concerned that the plane is seemingly held down just by concrete cylinders? Probably just an engine start/stop test but not very confidence inspiring.
The engine start stop test was not conducted there. It was brought there just to have an open area for a

with all the team members.
Seems like they lack the technical knowhow to design a DSI intake. Ngl, it looks shitty lol.
The DSI intake has already been designed for the

and has a high possibility of being used in the Navy's TEDBF project too. The picture of cats warrior shared is of a technical demonstrator and as such not much thought has been put into the aesthetics part of it. Once it undergoes changes during the prototype testing phase, the final product will be made of composite materials akin to the Tejas.

Nice. But unfortunately, I followed the Turkish Kizilelma (why? Because the thing looks like a J-20!!!)

The comparison cannot be more stark when the Kizilelma was doing its ground and taxiing tests:

The Kizilelma looks like a proper weapon system to be honest in comparison to CATS.

The concrete weights and general background in the picture of the Indian project doesn't really help in conveying it as a serious project.

All this for a non-afterburning drone engine?

One would think that after 4 decades on work on the Kaveri, they would have a better process.

Or at least the Russians would give them better perks for being repeat customers at Gromov!
classic mismanagement and short sighted thinking of our leadership. If one thinks about the mentality of these people, they would jump off a clip in frustration.

that is classic HAL tho.
but it wont be fare to compare the CATS to Kizilelma right now as the Kizilelma was conceptualized way back in early 2010s, whereas the first time we came to know about CATS was in 2021. Given the time taken by HAL to role out a tech demonstrator, it is an improvement which should be praised. CATS will look more like a better system when it actually enters the prototype stage same as the kizilelma, which will come after this tech demonstrator. then we can compare them.

So it is just a TD? That is being very late to the game. Even in comparison to Turkey -- not China or the US where the difference in resources would make things more understandable.

To me, there is no reason that Indian decision-makers would actually not understand the same trends that Turkey and the rest of the world are following since the 2010s. By the time I can see a prototype and properly compare CATS, it might be another 5 o 10 or 15 years down the line and the world had moved on?

that has more to do with the Indian policy and politics which was Pakistan centric. China as an adversary only happen in 2017. We literally had joint exersise and our soldiers used to chill and hangout on the border like a bunch of old friends.
As pakistan did not advance at the level of turkey, even India saw no need to advance too much(we were advancing but were not in a hurry to do so, turkey and the world tho, were hurrying up) and start another arms race in the region. Not to say, we were also eyeing better ties with Pakistan at that time.
So the pre modi governement didn't really focus much on china or the world and Modi too wanted to have better relation until 2016 when major terrorist attacks started happening again.
This can be viewed as short sightedness but itschanging. Better late then never
Now, India and Modi has basically set sight on becoming (developed till 2047 and be) more active on the world stage and expand its sphere of influence and as such programs like CATS(yes it is just at a TD stage as far as we know), AMCA, etc are being focused on.
